Very glad my cash flow has held back my new build(s) ;) However since I have been monitoring the PC market over the last 12-18mnths a price drop/some price wars have been coming.

At one point it seemed I had just started to take an interest again as the prices rocketed. Looks like Oct/Nov could be a good time to get back in the game :)

not much, the 768MB card is still good,

and don't forget your 295 only really has 896 or something ram technically.
 
Hehe, I noticed Raven has posted 2-3 times and yet yesterday he was absolutely without question sure the GTX460 wasn't dropping in price again.

Nvidia will be making a huge loss on these at £100, shifting stock before the GTS455 most likely, dropping the GTX460 1GB price and introducing the 475GTX and what will likely have to be current GTX460 1GB pricing due to 6770/6870's launching and pushing the prices down a lot.

Still a good price but does make you wonder what you can get for £120 in under 2 months time. The 1gb version is likely to be down towards £130-140 and the 6770, who really knows how fast it is. Very interesting couple months coming up.
 
Update from NVIDIA this pricing is set to only last 6-8 weeks, after this time pricing will go back to normal. However what could happen is NVIDIA will see incredible uplift in sales and decide to keep them at this pricing.

Warehouse's must be stuffed full of 460 768's so it makes sense to drop the price substantially and get them shifted, and at these prices no doubt they will.

With this change ATI is now completely uncompetitive across the board, the only card I can see that competes is the 5970.

You wouldnt buy a 5750, 5770, 5830, 5850 or 5870 now

When the 5850 can be had for under £200 it does make a modicum of sense, fitting in nicely between the GTX460 and GTX470, but seeing as it usually above £200 now (the only times it is under £200 is on the week only deals @ OCuk), it does seem that Nvidia have pulled out all the stops to regain some lost market share

I mean if you go past 768MB VRAM usage in a game (high res textures, 1920, higher AA) then the performance will drop like a stone. On less taxing games i agree the performance will be in the range you are talking about. For SLI at higher resolutions (2560) then 1GB is the bare minimum imo.

Nothing 'wrong' with the 768MB versions, but nowadays 1GB is the norm for this performance bracket. Even the 5770 has 1GB ram, and so will the GTS450/455.

Ask for the difference to be refunded. Saves everyone the trouble(and money) of you returning it unused under DSR and reordering.

+1 definitely worth a try. If you send it back under dsr just to reorder you'll only be saving maybe £5 to £7 roughly, which imo isn't worth the hassle.
 
Hey,

Can someone reccommend me a value monitor which wont have a problem running at its native resolution if I choose to purchase one of these cards?

I had my eye on the BenQ G2420HDBL 24" Widescreen LED Monitor however judging by some comments, a 768mb card will struggle to run 1920 X 1080 (especially for future games).

Is that correct?

I'm moving from a 19inch monitor btw.
 
No, that's bull****, 256MB less of memory won't have a huge impact on performance, in most games it won't have any impact at all. Sure some games can use more than 1GB memory these days but it doesn't mean they will struggle with less. Lesser memory bandwidth on the other hand will give lower performance results in most tasks but the difference of about 10% (actually less than that in most tasks) will be negligible. 768MB version has also less ROPs that will have some impact performance-wise. Amount of memory is the least affecting factor tbf.
 
Just bought a Value OCUK card as it's for folding so the RAM makes no difference. I was waiting for the price to fall so am very happy bunny indeed. Now I can retire my borked 9800GX2 which costs a fortune to run compared to a 460.

These have got to be NVidia's best priced mid-range cards since the 8800GT. The 768MB cards will be fine upto 1680x1050 abd even 1920x1080 at a push, but for anything the 1024MB is probably a safer investment.

NVidia obviousely wants to shift the 768MB boards which were overpriced (in comparisson to 1024MB 460's) to begin with.
