Codemasters F1 2010 X360/PS3 (contains important question about 2011 game!!!)

I've been lucky enough to get a PS3 copy of this today. I've posted a bit on the official F12010 forums, but thought I'd share it on here as well.

I can answer a few questions sometime today if anyone has any (except from where did you get it from, because I can't reveal that I'm afraid. If it was possible for you lot to get it as well I would say, but it's not)


Some very quick first impressions:

I am a pad user for starters, I don't have a wheel so I'm playing with some assists on. I would consider myself half decent at Grid/Dirt 2.

I would say they have got the balance about right between arcade/sim for a pad user. It may be relatively easy to control, but it is not easy to be fast at all. Very difficult to get the braking points right and be smooth with a pad.

The only slight negative I can see straight away as a pad user is that all the little steering inputs you have to make with the controller make your driver twitch the steering wheel, so from either cockpit or tcam view it looks like the driver is having a fit.

Graphics are very good for a PS3 game, the rain looks amazing, I normally play on the PC and I suspect it will look stunning on a decent spec PC with better textures and resolution.

So unlike the PS3, the xbox360 only has the official M$ wheel or the fanatec wheels, which are stupidly expensive???.

I had a look at my M$ wheel last night and it seems to have gone kaput ie doesnt work or anything so lookinmg at other options now but dont fancy spending £100+ for a wheel plsu im wanting to get a wheel stand as well...still not sure if i should go for the wheelstand pro or the fanatec rennesport wheel stand.

If you dont already own a PS3 then you should possibly consider the option of a 2nd hand PS3 and buy the DFGT wheel rather than the expensive Turbo S to get a better X360 wheel. The problem is lack of choice for X360.

The DFGT is a decent wheel and will please most people and its better built with better customer support from Logitech compared to the MS wheel. Additionaly the majority of driving games are now multiplatform.

PS3 also allows a PAD controller to work alongside a wheel so effectively you can navigate menus and replays easier with a pad. The new PS Move "Navi" controller is perfect for this role.

There is also the Logitech Drive FX wheel for the 360, no need to buy a PS3 just to get a decent Logitech wheel

Thanks, I forgot about that. I've updated the picture now. Isn't there some tradition about a loaf of bread on here as well? I was going to add that in but thought it was a bit weird if I'd remembered that wrongly!

Haha, yeah the loaf of bread thing started in Motors IIRC. You'd have gotten away with it , but the picture with your username is what's asked for these days .

Cheers but im not interested in the PS3 tbqh...it wouldnt serve me any use other than a cheap-ish blu ray player but i already have one of those as it is.

Kinda sucks that the 360 doesnt have a good selection of wheels...i might ring up M$ and see what they say about my wheel...its been sat in the closet for the past 2 yrs lol...was planning on selling it but hadnt got round to doing it...would have been good if it worked as ive got F1 on pre-order and tbh i cant see myself playing that with a controller...FM3 is hard enough with the pad as it is.

well im lucky enough to be self employed and im looking forward to waking up and receiving it on friday morning when f1 practice is on...there's something special about that - i'll have the day off i reckon!

LOL ok seems like my wireless wheel does work...had the connections in wrong lol.

Anyhow have ordered the wheelstand pro for the wheel as the fanatec one was working out to about £120 shipped whereas the wheelstand pro came out £95 shipped...plsu the reviews that i have been reading and looking at...it seems to be highly recommended by people.

Looking forward to getting it and getting my wheel connected so i can race properly...my 7 yr old nephew is going to be mega jealous when i send him pics of my racing setup

I'm trying to find a place selling them for that price that actually has them in stock though!

I've done a couple of quick races now, starting to get a feel of the handling. It's pretty arcadey with a control pad and some assists on, but really good fun.

lol "on a charge" - we dont need it in the game as well thx, it's just about bearable on the beeb. Game looks stunning, cannot wait. Everything looks bliss! The frame rate also looks fine, don't know why people are moaning about 30fps. Cant wait for next Friday!!!

Yeah the gfx look gorgeous! There aren't enough vids in nice and sunny weather like that, the weather really gives off a feel of a sunday afternoon in brazil there. Excellent

Agreed lol. looks fab, can't wait as for 30fps its mostly the PC crowd that bemoan 30fps. 60fps is nicer, but this looks to be pretty good to me..

Well im not going to spend £230 on something i clearly dont have the room for...thats why i went for the wheelstand pro as it will fit in my room without me having to move things around.
