Because people will naturally believe that the person has drunk too much even though in my daughters case she had just turned up and was on her first drink.
You also have to take into account that this is a young woman whose body language I have read for the last 23 years and I know the difference between drunk, paralytic and completely out of it.
 
Although it does happen, a lot of people do claim their drink has been spiked when in fact they have just drunk too much or taken other drugs voluntarily.

Pretty sure the hospital test results show that it rarely happens. In 2009 out of 97 of young people admitted to hospital claiming that their drinks must have been spiked, only 2 actually were.

That's a pretty low ratio compared to what people claim or beleive. Although, after just one drink, there would appear to be something going on in the OP's case.
 
I do wonder what the point of spiking a drink like that is though? I can see why people would 'date rape' drugs but wtf is the point of spiking a drink that makes the person violently ill? What does that achieve?
 
Well in my brothers case they believe it was GHB and he reacted badly to it by convulsing and sizing etc. But for others it just makes them totally drowsy and lose your inhibitions etc. Everyone reacts to it differently supposedly.

More likely just a reaction to the drug's chemical make-up.

Isn't GHB the stuff that is used in nail polish or nail polish remover or something? I think I remember something on Radio 4 about it being difficult to make illegal because it is used so commonly in the manufacture of household products.

To the OP, glad your friend is ok. Might not have been spiked for you know what, could have just been another kind of sicko wanting to ruin someones night.
 
But its not like they will even see what happens... I guess they can think about it though.

Wonder how much it happens in the UK compared to other countries.

Maybe he should have an MRI if he has had a fit, it might have had nothing to do with the drink.

My dad had one before he was diagnosed with a brain tumour. (not trying to scare you)

Maybe they stuck around to watch the repercussions of their actions who knows. To some people that would be entertaining I guess.
 
its horrid when it happens, I was spiked with lsd in Holland years and years ago, why anyone would choose to take that drug voluntarily i do not comprehend. The spikee thought it would be funny.......

There was a study a while back that pretty much said that 98% of people that said they had been spiked had nothing in their system but alcohol. 1 drink and that reaction is a bit of a stone wall spiking though.

might have been one of his mates doing it for a laugh and getting the dose horribly wrong (also GHB + alcohol not the smartest of ideas) and not wanting to come forward.
