I'm still convinced that a 335i and then a remap later down the line is the answer. If he hasn't had a Turbocharged car yet the novelty of a vastly different type of power delivery is worth a good few months of entertainment in itself (That is if Modern turbo technology hasn't taken away the "Nothing... Nothing... Nothing... WHOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSH" effect :D)

I do agree with you that a 335i with a extended guarantee is a better idea but but the car really does not have the WHOOOOSSSSH effect. It drive and feels just like a N/A car

Did you experience the single or the twin turbo version?

I can imagine the single having a less defined kick through in wonders of variable vains, but the twin setup seems to be just an ordinary set of two turbos running in parallel which I'd have thought would be a little bit more... pronounced when hitting boost :D.

I have only owned the twin turbo one (I did not know they changed the 335i to single turbo)

the first turbo is very small so it kicks in much lower down the rev range and the second one kicks in a little later so you never really notice it.

But then I moved from a Revo Remaped TT and you really could notice the difference as the turbo kicked in

Fair enough - I was only going by assumptions based on old school technology.

Wasn't aware that the Twins ran a sequential (One Turbo kicks in and then the other kicks in again later down the line like you describe) setup. I always thought they were parallel setup.

They are parallel.

is this not going to be a fruitless search ?

He's going to get bored of the 330i the same way he got bored of the 320 and the 335 is too much money.

I know you said he likes BMWs, but would something a bit more raw/exciting/less refined be what he's looking for ? Impreza WRX or similar ? or is he set on something german ?

I had a brain storm this morning, a Boxster, whats to get bored with and he likes them :)

I also know about them so the hunt is on!!

Cheers for the comments by the way guys it gets it out of my system moaning on here :)

You guys redefine impulse purchasing.

As you are so generous and I'm so helpful can I have the 320i for £5k? :p

I tell you what i do with you, if they offer him less than 6 for it, you can come and have it for 5 for being a good sport :)

Anyway looks a tidy one dosent it that Boxster, low miles 1 owner good options, i know you dont like autos, but in London you would :)

Well why would he want to do put the effort in when he can acheive all the things he wants on a few hundred quid a week? The guy was driving around in a 2 year old BMW - most people with degrees can't afford one of those - so you can see why he's thought it isnt worth bothering!

Heck I'd not have bothered to go to Uni had my Dad offered to just buy me stuff.

Just to stick my oar in where it's probably not needed or wanted :p

I agree with this - what motivation is there to go forth and better himself and put the effort in when what he does now rewards him with things like a car vastly better than 95% of people his age could afford, graduates or otherwise.

To me there doesn't seem to be any incentive for him. I want a better car so i'm putting effort into my work so that I get recognised and rewarded with better pay.

I wouldn't be doing that if a nearly new BMW was dropped into my lap though, I can assure you :p

Al the points of view are welcome, its just hard to explain unless you have kids.

**** it anyway i'l lend him the money to get this if its alright once i get it inspected, and see if he livens up :)

Maybe im pushing him too hard.

I tell you what is ironic / funny / sad depending how you look at it, my business partners son is EXACTLY the same. We both got one like it!

We might not have kids but we are in our 20's.

I went to Uni and got a job after so I could buy cool stuff and go to cool places. I wouldnt have bothered if my Dad bought me cool stuff instead, why would I need to? :p

Oh i dont know, and now his sister has started whining about a new horse if hes getting a car.

Take his 320i off him and give him a Fiat Grande Punto 1.2.

Then tell him when he graduates with a 2:1 or higher, you will gift him a Boxster S.

Watch that degree come.

Give him an incentive sure, but no need to make the guy suicidal :p
