XIM2 or 3 for xbox 360

wow people still arguing about this. if u feel like a xim is cheaing then u obviously wont get one :)... What is amusing is that if u are a pad player and u are up against some crazy leet godlike halo reach player with awesome aim, will in the back of your mind you be thinking, is he a xim user?

play a proper racer like rfactor, iracing and live for speed

I have played them, and what do they have to do with anything in this thread?

They're PC sims designed with the wheel only in mind.

I'm not denying that wheels have a slight advantage over pads in console games designed to be used in them. My point is, that XIM users gain a much more massive advantage using options (such as auto aim) designed for pad players to make them artificially play better than they actually are.

A bad player with a pad is still a bad player with a wheel. A bad player with a pad, will do a lot better with K+M with auto aim assists.

A bad player with a bigger screen isn't going to shoot any more people, and a bad player with surround sound isn't going to utilise it.

What is amusing is that if u are a pad player and u are up against some crazy leet godlike halo reach player with awesome aim, will in the back of your mind you be thinking, is he a xim user?

Obviously you're not going to be able to tell exactly what the person on the other end is using, however just looking at the videos shows just how blatant it is that something's not right.

I find the whole use of it pathetic tbh though.

If you're not good enough to play on a pad against other console players, and you're not good enough to play with a M+K against other PC users, you have to resort to this?

If you have to artificially boost your skill in anyway to make yourself better = cheating.

Really flogging a dead horse here. If you want to make yourself feel good by pretending you're better than you are and cheating, fine.

Speaking as an old git [54], my son batters me on an xbox [anything...].
He still wins on a PC on MW2, but that is because he remembers the maps.

If I could afford one of those controllers I would get it - it make it way more fun for both him as well as me.

orderoftheflame you're going to have to give in I'm afraid :)...I have. This product is going to be huge and rampantly used on line. I feel your pain...it is a shame but its going to be used in every major FPS from launch. Its actually why I've taken a step back on playing seriously on MP games on console fps. There's just no point any more after the launch of this, and I guess I'm a little sore that I'm going to be bottom of the pile on my friends list. :D

I do like playing competitively but see little point given the popularity of a product like this so I'm taking off my try hard pants. This product is getting no way near the amount of resistance on other console forums so its either like it or lump it :(

Aye. I gave up MP FPSs on consoles a while back. Guess I'll have to let consoles degrade to this little world of fake 1337ness that people want to turn it into. :p

No one is arguing the XIM isn't giving people are large advantage, it's whether that advantage should be construed as cheating.

Some do, some don't..

If you have to artificially boost your skill in anyway to make yourself better = cheating.

This is the difference of opinion, There are many things that can give people an advantage, but the opinion differs in that I for one class them all as boosting your skill artificially, just because the degree of boost is relatively small in comparison, it's still boosting your skill..

I do think it's not a good thing, but it's inevitable, I know lots of very good PC FPS players that refuse to come over to the consoles because the PAD is so unfamiliar, they aren't prepared to spend months learning it to get back to the same level of proficiency they where at.

Assuming these aren't easy to ban/detect, then perhaps we've turned a corner, and developers should harass Sony/Microsoft to get M&K support in their games, at least that way they can balance things up a bit better, and people would be able to know easily if they other people are using a pad or mouse/keyboard and this would go someway to appeasing things?

This dev has made it impossible. It runs constantly through a wired pad. So the XBOX only see's a pad with the official protocol chip.

This whole thing was inevitable though as you said with so many moving over from PC to console gaming. Hopefully something official will come at some point.

As an ex PC gamer, i enjoy gaming online with the console because its more relaxing to be sat somewhere comfortable then at a desk for hours.
If something official comes out then =/ really, this needs to be banned. Somehow.
Hopefully with the next Console.

This will ruin online gameplay for the rest of the people who use a pad. Online gameplay is competitive and this clearly gives an unfair advantage to some. The only way to combat it would be for M$ to either ban users or release their own K+M...

The difference with using a K+M against using a wheel or arcade stick is pretty obvious though imo.
With them you still have the same limits on your car or character. You can still only turn the wheels on the car from nothing to full lock for example.

With a pad in a FPSs you're limited to the speed you can turn by your sensitivity. You put the pad to turn fully and you've still got a finite amount of time it takes to turn.
Using an XIM this isn't a problem, you can maximise the sensitivity input on the console to something that would be completely unusable on a pad, then dial it down through the XIM. You can then beat this turning speed issue just by moving your arm faster or further.

Good for them, I'm not sure why the whole of the console community should have to adapt because some ex-PC gamers are too lazy to adapt.

I can play equally well with a M+K and Pad, and it's no fuss to switch between them. But now if I want to play competitively with these players on the console, I have to move to my desk and spend $200 on an adapter to turn it back to an even playing field?

As was said by Zensuji, these XIM devices have been developed to be undetectable.
If they've no reason to hide the fact that they're being used, why would they do it?

I'd have absolutely no problem with using a M+K on a console if it was supported, and lobbies and servers where segregated for pad players.

Until then, they only way I can possibly see the XIM devices are as cheating.

Yeah, i mean its not like people do anything for an advantage, right?
Like back when CS was at its most popular and literally every other server had 2-3 hackers in it.

Do you really think these will become a widespread used accessory?

Yep. There's threads all over tonnes of gaming forums with people ready to jump on. I think once they're are out there and people start having XIM3 in there clan tag etc it will just spiral from there. Its going to be fairly mainstream and they'll be uk suppliers as well. They are going to be priced competitive with the crap adaptors out on the market so wont be that expensive either. Personal I think they'll be huge.

Look at how many people on this forum alone hacked for an advantage on COD. This will give them an undetectable advantage. Of course it will become widespread. Some people might buy it to play the single player and make stuff like veteran easy but lets face it this will soon catch on for online.

Then again I don't care because I don't care about ranked matches and if gets people to go back to play against mates in player matches thats good too.

I've even googled and i still don't understand what this is, someone put it in simple terms what is "XIM"?

XIM stands for Xbox Input Machine.

It allows a mouse and keyboard to be plugged into it as well as a wired controller. The device then controls the controller via a mouse and keyboard using smart translators specific to the game mechanics basically allowing near PC like mouse and keyboard control on console games. And in games like COD extremely close due to the natural of the stick handling.

Wow, if that wasn't considered cheating i'd be all over it like hugh hefner on a skinny blonde, considering the responses from a lot of people though i'll just carry on as i do now.....avoiding FPS games on consoles like the plague :D

Sounds like just the thing I need to get me back into MW2! Where can I get one. I gave up on it because everyone just seemed so damn annoying but if this means I can shoot them all in the face then I'll get one!

edit: I think the final straw in MW2 was when I got nailed by someone who was probably using something like this. On the killcam, he span 180 degrees and quickscoped me in a fraction of a second.

Funnily enough no matter how much I despise quick scoping that was probably 100% done on a pad.

I have a guy on my friends list who can pull this off with a pad 95% of the time. I class him as a usefull quick scoper lol.

Oh and Hi Danny - As to the remark earlier, I will not be using this product :p don't have to as I can 1337 pwn a noob at a 1000 paces :p.
