Cameron Zink's 360 :cool::)

For me Gee's run was the best, the air he was getting off even the smallest mounds of dirt was insane. The speed at which he attacked his line was crazy, compared to the other riders his run looked like it was played in fast forward, I don't think the guy touched his brakes! He was by far the smoothest rider and totally stomped his run.

Zink's 360 was the best trick thrown at the event but it came in an otherwise average run, on a line that many other riders completed. It was a fantastic single trick but I thought the judging was on the entire run?

I really enjoyed Berrecloth's riding, he took a line far more technical and loose than any of the other riders, used the terrain really well and threw a 360 drop off in for good measure.

Great event, shame about the fat, idiot commentator though.

+1

Gee's run was perfect, so smooth and fast. I don't think he deserved the flak he was getting for being in second place. His gap to wallride was flawless too after Romaniuk's crash.

Berrecloth must have been pretty disappointed to finish third, his run was awesome after that massive save. I'm not sure how he managed to stay on his bike. I can't blame him for needing a rest when he got to the bottom!

Agree with comments on Zink, best trick in an otherwise unremarkable run.

Shame about the sketchy coverage for the first 45mins, I grew pretty tired of kite surfers and the presenter made me want to kill something to death. Cam McCaul was brilliant, fat guy not so much.

.Gee just rode it like a DH race, which it wasnt. there was far more impressive riding than his there, fair enough the hip to wallride, but the rest was just a bit boring, if fast, for a freeride event.

Gee was getting quite a bit of stick (unfairly imo) in the Freecaster chat I was in during the event. Basically his run was very fast, smooth and he was the only rider to land the hip transfer.

My view on the results :

1: Claw
2: Gee
3: Zink with tick of the day.

Brutal crashes!
It just shows the progress over the last 15-20 years. Pretty much all of us could complete that run today on a basic FS XC bike.

Anyone get any tips or guides on adjusting disc brakes? (hydraulic)

Discovered this was the cause of the squeek and been having a play trying to adjust it it correctly but I can still hear it faintly catching.

Thanks

Claws tricks were great, but the run lacked any flow, it kept stalling and very nearly falling off at the start had to lose him marks, even if it was an awesome save!

Gee's run lacked impressive tricks, but everything he pulled was perfect, not only did he land that transfer, but the landing was so smooth, he hardly kicked up any dirt at all.

Have to agree about Zink, apart from that one trick, which was incredible, the rest was average at best..

That old video got me thinking and I went up in the loft and found 2 old MBUK videos from the mid 90's, DIRT and GETTA GRIP. Unfortunately, I don;t have a VCR any more but Youtube delivers! I wonder if anyone else remembers this!!

When you squeeze the lever as hard as you can does the rotor move/flex at all?
If not it probably doesn't need adjusting, most brakes rub a teeny bit anyway.

Then again, if you have been playing with them, its probably all wrong now :P

To align caliper:
Loosen the two mounting bolts (either side of the caliper), squeeze the lever hard and with the other hand tighten the bolts up again (don't let go of the lever until the bolts are tight, and do the bolts up evenly).

Make sure all other bolts are tight, particularly the 6 little bolts that hold your rotor on.

If your pads are worn unevenly, this won't work very well, and you should look into getting new pads.

I remember Dirt. :D
Do you remember Mud Cows? That was (and still is) great. Quality soundtrack and a load of messing about. A cut down Mud Cows is still available on Youtube, sure I still have the video about somewhere.

I'm with you.
Dont get me wrong, Id kill to ride like Gee, but his run lacked "FR" flair

Overtightened Hollowtech II crank cap, you say? No problem!

Just take one crank arm installation tool:

A 6mm Allen Key:

And a hammer:

And job's a good 'un:

And to make this post relevant, the rest of the bike. Clean as a whistle after a week's riding in the Lakes.

Edit: I agree Gee didn't have the "flair" of the other riders, but I thought tricks only made up a quarter of the judging criteria?

That cap is just to preload the bearings in the bottom bracket, barely finger tight. If you tightened it so tight you need a hammer to get it off....

Ah, no! The hammer was just to gently persuade the allen key into the tool. It was pretty tight, but it wasn't tight enough to need a hammer to loosen..
