Anyone have parking wars with their neighbours?

actually,

I live very near the center of town, and come carnival night, theres a build up of cars , luckily all the neighbors around here are super smart like me, and just move all the cars from the driveways out into the cul-de-sac's, making parking for outsiders nigh on impossible.

I would imagine that

a) The title of the house states (as most new builds do) that businesses cannot be run from the property

b) That the council would be interested in someone clearly using residential property for commercial parking

If you don't complain why expect someone else to? I wouldn't put up with that.

I agree. If I lived there I would complain. What I meant was that the reason people like that continue to operate is that too often nobody will because they are worried about the consequences.

definately need reporting to the local council.

You may even be able to do it on-line. I filled in one recently for a pavement near work that had become so overgrown we had to walk on the road. They came out a few weeks later and cleared the lot for us.

Thankfully I dont have any problems but at my girlfriends place there is a parking area at the back of the houses. I would say that everyone has their own place and knows where others park too, but when ever my girlfriend is away you can almost bet that someone will be parking in her space.

It's a total pain, I dont block anyones area when I visit, yet there is always one person that will use the space just to save them having to walk an extra few feet around the corner which is unallocated.

I have parking for about 4 cars up my drive and space for one in my garage. The on-street parking used to be really good but it's recently become a proper joke. I have a neighbour (3 doors down) who insists on owning 2x Saabs, 2x Volvo, 1x old junker, 1 x camper van, 1 x caravan, 2 x small trailers. one saab, one volvo the camper van and the trailers/caravan stay on his drive but everything else parks on the street. It even looks like his mates car has been parked up on the street for the past 2 months.

Speaking with my other neighbours they're all getting annoyed at the guy, who doesn't work due to a recent accident.

I have no issues with how many cars he parks on his own land but when it gets to the stage that other people are finding it hard to park on the street it annoys me. I am considering parking up both my Land Rovers on the street for a weekend or two but this really doesn't solve the issue and would just be a little childish.

Jeez man get this man reported, it looks like something is happening and it needs to stop. Believe me the council will take a very dim view of someone running a business like this in a residential area.

I did, this was the reply I recieved from Slough Borough Council

Thank you for your email enquiry.

Unfortunately as there are not currently any waiting restrictions on Dupre Close, we are unable to enforce these vehicles by issuing Penalty Charge Notices. However, parking on the footway is in breach of the Highway Code and although Slough Borough Council does not currently enforce footway parking, the Police have the powers to issue fixed penalty notices to vehicles causing an obstruction in this way.

I have also spoken to the planning department with reference to the possible business based at the premises; however they are unable to take any action.

I hope this response helps, and please do not hesitate to contact me with any further enquires.

Kind regards

Basically they don't give a stuff ! Anyway I'm glad to see its not just me who thinks its unreasonable !

I've posted this before but this prime example of why some people should not be allowed to own a car was parked outside a month or so ago...

Sorry to hear that, it's a total **** take and he knows it.

I'd be tempted to contact the police and get some fines handed out as there is 3 in that image alone, and hope that it stops.

If not then reply to them and say that it's not good enough and you want some action taking or you will seek advice from higher up.

There is a woman that works (but not lives) in one of the houses on the opposite side of the road, and for some reason she always parks outside my house, even if the road is virtually empty and there are spaces closer to where she works. I tried parking my car outside my house before walking my daughter to school (she always arrives around this time) but as soon as I get back and get in my car to go to work she will move her sodding Saxo back in front of my house. Last week I actually saw her running over to her car to move it as I pulled away, so I just reversed back and parked again and took my bike to work :D

Legally I have no more right to the space than her but it is very irritating that she seems to be targeting my house for some reason.

this would be my line of attack

report it to the police every single time till it becomes a pain for them and they have to resort to other measures to get him to stop.

I'd write back to them; how can they give such a useless and apathetic response and then follow it up by "I hope this response helps"?

Dear Useless feckwitt

Thank you for your reply to the parking issue I raised. Since receiving your letter I have been monitoring the parking situation but unfortunately I have seen no change in the parking habits of the person illegally running a business at the aforementioned address. I therefore feel obliged to inform you that, in spite of your stated hopes, your response was not helpful in any way. However I look forward to you next response, and join you in your hope that it may be useful.

We have a driveway, which is fine for the one car we need to put on it, but we still have issues with the neighbours next door and opposite who own loads of cars between them. They'll often park on the pavement in front of our house and leave it really tight when you try to get out. They've once parked on our driveway before now, which is cheeky as hell.

The bigger problem we have is that we live round the corner from the station so everyone parks up on both sides of the street and leaves tiny gaps for you to get through. Lots of times the bin lorry can't get down the road, and it's only rarely - and understandably so - that they can be arsed to fetch all the bins from up and down the road and take them to the end.

Where my parents used to live was round the corner from a church that was really popular for weddings. People would literally park across the driveway, so there was no way of getting out until they returned. Unbelievable how inconsiderate people can be.

I personally don't have issues parking most of time, this is probably because I am one of the few people stupid enough / not a tight arse to pay for a parking permit.

Report that response from the council to The Sun "Newspaper" and I bet they run with it.

If it gets in the press (no matter how poor the paper used) I bet someone will take a bit more of a look into it!!

I'm not going to be upgrading my car any time soon until I can afford a place with either secure parking or a driveway, parking in the street sucks when you care about your car.

Yes, we have parking wars on our street. Sometimes it can be quite amusing.

There is one guy who lives on our street. He owns a transit van aswell as a car. He doesn't like parking either outside his own house as there is a tree so regularly parks everywhere else if he can.

One Friday he parked his van next door but one to me. The neighbour in question was expecting a large delivery of furniture so went over and politely asked if he would mind moving his van whilst they deliver. There were other spaces avaialble on the street but he declined.

My neighbours son was not too pleased with the response so that evening whilst on the way home from the pub, deflated all four of his tyres and went to bed. Saturday morning we wake up and find the van man is pumping his tyres back up. This takes sometime and we are having a bit of a laugh about it behind the curtains. He finishes his tyres and again leaves his van parked outside their house.

Saturday night, the neighbours son comes home from the pub, see's the van is still not moved so puts his chinese takeaway on top of the van, goes inside to fetch the stanley knife. Slashes all four of his tyres.

Sunday morning arrives and we find the van man now has a mobile tyre fitter out replacing his tyres. He moves the van this time.

The hilarious part of it was. Sunday night in the local pub is Karaoke. The van man and neighbours son are both in. The neighbours son goes on Karaoke and starts singing Jordan Sparks - No Air.

He doesn't park his van outside their house anymore.

We have a family on our cul-de-sac who appear to be running a car hire / airport parking business, they can have anything up to 11 cars sometimes strewn across their garden, across the front of their house and in all of the available visitors spaces, sometimes they overhang their driveway and have cars parked across making it very awkward to get in and out of my parking space. New cars keep turning up every day and sitting there without being moved for weeks at a time.

He's even managed to block people from driving in and out of the car park at the top of the picture by having so many cars parked end to end.

All the cars with a red dot belong to the house (arrowed) - and this is on a quiet day !

Appears to be running a Airport Parking business or is running one ! ?
He could be a Used car Trader, as the cars in the picture are a mix bag of models and age !
If he blocks you in then have a word, if not the local council may have to get involved
