GAP...the new logo controversy

Huge huge mistake I think, going from a plain but instantly recognisable logo to another plain yet really, very dull image.

It is actually a viral marketing attempt at crowdsourcing.

Basically, "If we make our logo crap loads of people on the internet will draft up logo designs and ideas for free or at least at a reduced cost"

So to anyone who has actually made there own version of the GAP logo in an attempt at saying mine is better than yours.

Owned.

Ps. They pretty much admitted this on twitter.

Absolutely this - anyone who thinks this wasn't an intentional ploy to get the public/internet at large to shower them with free design ideas is hugely short sighted.

Why pay thousands upon thousands for a professional when hundreds of people will do the job for free and you can just pick and choose anything you fancy and have a pro finish it up relatively cheaply?

It worked for OcUK ;) (minus the intermediate ultra crap logo stage)

To be honest, I don't buy into well known branded clothing at all, ever.
I just don't.

GAP is actually a logo I recognise but if you told me to draw it before seeing this thread, I would not have been able to. It's probably a controversial move in which more people know about it, a marketing stunt.

Either way, I can only see the people caring are the people who wear GAP clothing and now are unhappy that everyone else who's sees them wearing it might not get it, because they care too much about what other people think, what they wear, their appearence. Forgetting of course that in this crazy world of buying branded clothing, they are now wearing things no longer sold/made.

Either way, I can't see the big fuss. Cry more to be honest :|

It's just a marketing ploy to drum up some more interest in my opinion and possibly to get a new logo design for free, their facebook page had a message up requesting people's input.
