Friend rolled his car...

Has everybody else here missed the point that the OP's friend did nothing wrong? the guy in the pug sped up when he pulled alongside, if he had held his speed like he should the OP's friend would have passed him and pulled in safely, instead the OP's friend had no choice but to try and accelerate past and swerve in before the oncoming car hit him.

Nievety, look it up.

No, the driver was at fault. But in the process of discussing the events someone mentioned that overtaking 1 car in a 1.2 Punto was a feat, let alone 2. I used to have one - i know how slowly they move and how much open road you need to overtake. Then, you bought up BMW's.

The car accelerates and is capeable of overtaking anything as long as the car thats being overtaken maintains its speed. The slower the car the more the driver has to compensate for the move he is about to perform based on how much room he/she has to do so

Keep it in that thread then instead of derailing someone elses?

Will do

lol seriously? Is this about the Toyota quality thing? Get over yourself, I don't care what you post enough to have thought about mentioning a car to annoy you, that was because paradigm mentioned kid camry and I linked it back to a more popular uk car as we don't get camry here.

Just lol

Rubbish, but impossible for me to prove otherwise

No choice? Did his car not have brakes?

It was his fault though. He should have backed off but didn't.

It was the OPs fault.

He was a **** for attempting the overtake in a woefully underpowered car.

There were other options available to him, he was too ignorant to see them or picked the wrong 'option'.

My car is nippy enough and even on a straight a 2 car overtake requires ample planning, even if it is clear when you pop out on a road with any junctions coming onto it you could be left up **** creek - either someome joining or your overtake deciding to leave. I rarely overtake more than 1 car unless I KNOW I can get in-front of the single car should I need to.

It was his bad decision, combined with an inappropriate vehicle for the task. They are not independent factors, what he was driving is every bit as much an issue as his choice.

If he were a more important person and therefore worthy of getting some where quicker he would not have been in a 1.2 Punto. should have stuck to his place at the back of the traffic imo. People should know there positions in life and not try and get above their station.

That looks nice...

On an unrelated note, Peerzy were you at Clapham Junction yesterday morning?

Nope, a Peerzy look-a-like or just the third Bravo sale in the UK (after me and my mum)?

LOL, What?

What a stupid comment.

Maybe I didn't drive my 1.2 hatchback like a total knob perminantly but I never got it anywhere near rolling.

To all those saying he made up the Pug driver putting his foot down he's usually the type to come out and simply say "Yeah I balls up" and like I've said before has no reason to really lie and is a top bloke. However I wasn't there so no real idea.

He'd had the car about 3 years I think and is 21 now so he knew the power of the car.

If a car is doing 30 in a 60 and you get a real good run up at it and you can see far enough no reason why a 1.2 Punto wouldn't be doing a safe overtake.

Fox - It's 60bhp not 50bhp :p

Love that, your a poor student so therefor drive a cheap small car and are dog turd and should be considered second class.

****.

Nice troll but when overtaking you need a reasonable amount of power to get past two cars..

Key word here is safe. It wasn't safe because he wasn't able to perform the maneuver.

I've been 'hung out to dry' so to speak a few times, powerful car or not, someone speeding up whilst you overtake is not something that should happen and even if you have twice the power of the car you're passing. It doesn't leave you with any time to make a decision and once you've passed one car, aborting the overtake is pretty much not an option in my experience. The drivers he described who do one speed on all roads (which usually means going 10+ over the limit in a 30 and 20 less everywhere else) drive almost bumper to bumper in their own little selfish bubbles.

Overtaking is always a risk no matter the conditions. You are putting yourself into the odds of unpredictable nature. The driver is at fault, he reacted badly to a situation only he had control of. There may have been room to squeeze up to the car he was passing giving them the hint to back off (I have done this a couple times sadly), from the story it seems aborting would have been a similar disaster. Saying he's at fault does not mean he is a pillock or bad person though, he's just learnt the hard way and it's just an unfortunate indecent. The internet seems to jump on blaming fault as a personal attack these days.

Never got pictures of it. However here is one from when I tried to take my own life, also had a knife stuck in me. Laugh about all that now and in a far better place
:o, you tried to kill yourself by crashing into a pole? :( Sorry to hear that, but happy to hear you're through that time in your life. Been close to do similar myself, seems stupid looking back (in my case).

while the pug driver was an idiot, the ops friend should have slowed down as a gap behind the pug would have opened up. accelerating further at this point was stupid.

The OP's mate clearly at fault, he did not expect the unexpected.

The car that gained speed on the hill (now theres a surprise!) may not have even seen him...

The OP's mate assumed the other car had seen him & would let him back in.

At least he killed that POS Fiat.

That pole was over 1K

was 80mph into a crash barrier and lamp post the road has a bunch of trees and a drop at the back. Here bellow is where it happened i was at the time hoping to go down hit the corner of the barrier and eff off over it. (as i say i was suicidal in my boxer shorts and had stuck a knife in me)

Heres where I rolled my C2, Came round giving it the beans, it had just started raining so the ground was that extremely slippy way after not raining for days.
