SSD in my Mac Pro *updated with performance figures* (and video)

I take it doing a secure erase using disk utility in OS X would be the same.

NO!

Don't do that :p

Secure Erase in Disk Utility writes zeros to the entire disk. ATA Secture Erase marks all the cells *empty*.

There are a few special apps which will ATA secure erase for you, however I don't know what they are as the Intel comes with the Toolbox.

Just picked up a 120gb for £180 delivered. Was going to wait until the new year for the extra capacity but the speeds would be limited by the sata2 on my macbook pro I assume.

I cant see myself getting anywhere near the 120gb anyway. I have used 130gb on my standard drive which is about 30gb of random series, 30gb music and 2 virtual machines along with photoshop etc. Get rid of the music and videos and I will have loads of space.

Just feels like a 5200rpm laptop drive is holding the whole system back.

You take the optical drive out and replace it with an enclosure called an optibay. Look it up.

Second hard disk - have a look here: http://www.markc.me.uk/MarkC/Blog/Entries/2009/9/1_Second_Hard_Disk_into_a_Macbook_Pro_Unibody.html

Just put a OCZ Vertex 2E 240Gb in my MBP. Is nice :D

This is with Windows 7 running, and Elements open. Also, iMovie running uploading a video to YouTube.

Feels somewhat snappier than my M225 that I've just taken out and..er.. put in my media Mac Mini

Feek, what did you do to secure the SSD in the Mac Pro?

I bought an Icy Dock MB882SP-1S-1B which arrived the same day as the SSD. When I opened the SSD I saw it came with a 3.5" cradle so I sent the icy dock thing back.

When I got home and tried to nail the supplied cradle to the mount in my Mac Pro I realised that I'd made a schoolboy error and that the cradle wouldn't fit to the mount.

So *blush* I used a small amount of duck tape to hold it in place and will eventually get around to buying another icy dock thingie.

Just put a 120Gb Patriot Inferno purchased from ocuk this week in my iMac i7 2.93Ghz...

Well pleased

Quick and dirty video of 75 apps being opened at once, it's quite funny to watch the dock fill up like that.

Im quite impressed that my Intel 160Gb after a month now of heavy use is still beating the new Vertex disks.

I think I made a good purchasing decision, new one for £220 del :D

So intel still beats the Vertex 2E SSDs?

I'm getting closer and closer to buying an SSD next week for my new MBP. Want at least 100GB for around £220...
