Ford Mondeo : Fuel Pump £1800? O.o

I'm not denying it was a financial decision - when I got rid of the Saab it was because I realised I wasn't bothered enough about having a nice car to keep paying for it.

Is it that you don't want to pay for a nice car or that the particular car you chose wasn't worth the running costs? Isn't this the reason that Saabs, RX8s and V8 4x4s are so cheap?

Who knows, I'd have to try owning something like a 330i to find out!

They are cheap because people don't like them, but I really do like them

Yea so much you moved it on after 5 weeks because you couldnt 'justify' the pennies to do very low mileage at 25mpg :D

Oh come on, stop warping my words, I was still doing 20k when I sold it and fuel economy was only ever a small factor

Are you sure that it isn't that it was a lot of car for the money so you convinced yourself you like them? Before the Saab, the mondy was the bestest greatest everest. Now you're 'completely happy' with the accord. Yea right. I'm not sure if you do it just to give out smug vibes on the internets or if you do it to convince yourself.

Actually, weren't you 'completely happy' with your Mondeo and your Saab aswell? I seem to remember you valiantly defending your choice in car saying you're 'completely happy'??

Oh Iain stop giving us excuses :(

You claimed do be doing 25% less mileage than this when the Saab was up for sale.

That thread was funny though, I love how the first page says you are only selling because you needed £6k to buy a new roof for a fully insured shared ownership structure and by the end of it you just fancied more cash for holidays.

How was that Safari you had planned?

Because a few hundred miles a month isnt a reasonable variation? I'll edit all my posts to say 15-20k if it keeps you happy

Shared ownership? I dont think you really know what that term means

I've got most of the money I need aside for the safari holiday, we're hoping to book it for summer 2011. Any reccomendations?

25% is a lot - admit you said 20k PA to make your point better than it was and we'll not speak of it again ;)

I didn't mean the specific legal term 'Shared Ownership'.

You live in a block of flats where you don't solely own the structure of the building and told us you had to sell the Saab to pay for critical repairs to the outside structure. Everyone went over this at the time :p

Most of the money aside? jeez I thought you'd have gone given the amount of disposable you've freed up since selling the Saab!

I recommend South Africa, as its less third world than Kenya. Who are you going with? A 'friend'? :p

Peckam, but when you find a family at a bus stop remember to leave one alive so the natives dont become extinct :D

I used the upper limit of what I was using the car for to make a point, yes.

The building's sorted now, thanks for your interest.

Have you priced safari holidays recently, they arent cheap - I've also done a fair bit of work on the flat that I wouldnt have been able to do. It really is flattering that you show such an interest in such dull and non-motoring related aspects of my life.

We were thinking Kenya rather than SA, as the "third world" aspect actually appeals - seeing the real Africa and all that

And did it involve you paying out £6k personally?

I have actually and I agree. South Africa was on the list for next year but given that you can fly to Australia for the price of a flight to Cape Town I've rather gone off it. I can't be bothered with spending £1400 on flights and not stepping off the plane in Aus.

Nope, it involved paying out a little bit for another structural engineers opinion, a lot of arguments between insurance company and said structural engineers, followed by about a grand's worth of re-rendering - paid for by the insurance company.

Aus is definitely on the list at some point, but a proper safari is something we've both wanted to do since we were kids - so trying not to think too much about the cost.

I'm working for a company with an australian parent, my colleague is an ozzie who was sent over to get the infrastructure set up but he's going home in a few weeks. There's talk of sending me over next summer to help out with a Citrix project, so I might get a free trip out there :)

Really? Fancy the insurance company stumping up for that, imagine if we'd all said that would happen on page 1 of the thread :p

I think I'd get annoyed with the whole organised feel. You cant really do your own thing. Sadly my GF shares your 'on the list' thing :(

Best case scenario :)
