Religion - I can understand someone believing in god/jesus, but why do they believe in the bible?

I believe Jesus may have actually existed..but if so he was no more than a mere mortal spouting off made up religious crap as they do now....nowadays they still grow beards but want to kill non-believers...& whereas jesus had risen from a tomb, todays equivelant tries to escape from prison on our earnings.

You do realise that the scroll's are fragments of the Hebrew Bible don't you? and that some are of apocryphal texts such as Enoch and that some include texts not recognised as canonical. What reason would anyone have to purposely hide texts that can simply be called apocryphal or Pseudepigraphical as indeed many of the scrolls, for example The Genesis Apocryphon , have already been.

Is it not more believable that in fact no text has been kept secret and that the real explanation is that considering the actual condition and that there are hundreds of tiny fragments to reconstitute and the fact that many of the works are incomplete and written in long dead languages such as Aramaic it takes time to publish them be a more reasonable assumption to make.

I did not make any comment on whether the Turin shroud is fake or not, but on the assumption made that someone faked it in his back yard on Halloween. So basically no he could not make the same accusation to me.

I would go with the radiocarbon dating that suggests the shroud dates to between 1260 and 1390, putting out of the realm of trick or treaters or Leonardo da Vinci who had yet to be born.

Interestingly you do realise that the Shroud has never been endorsed by the Catholic Church as being authentic.

Even as an atheist I know that God had been around for a very long time but Jesus was the first to announce he was the son of God and that's why they nailed him.
The rest of your story is probably true though.

I personally get sick of seeing it. People on this site need to stop taking things serious & just chill out & have a laugh..

You don't know me, you have no idea what I find funny or whether I am likely to 'have a laugh' at another's expense or not.

It's interesting how many people who answer a sensible post with garbage then say 'Oh I was only Joking' when they are called up on it.

If you are so sick of seeing it then go elsewhere.

God resides within you, Jesus was someone that said the wrong thing at the wrong time, Mary got knocked up, the bible is a great book that really meant something 2000 years ago. However God in my view is your conscience and doesn't require any of the outdated religions in order for you to be the man/woman that he/she would like you to be.

BTW...if you truly believe I put a post about the turin shroud being a trick or treater in all good faith & then proclaimed I was just joking when you pulled me about it....then there is no hope for you....& on that note...you clearly lack a sense of humour. My time is wasted...let the misery of these boards carry on....
