***** New toy from Intel... Results rather promising :) *****

Come on now it is a intel 990x @3.467 hex core, nothing special, why did they waste bring in on a gulftown, they should have just made it for the 2011 LGA

Tease :p.

I know you're not allowed to tell us what it is... but will we be seeing it this side of christmas?

i really do doubt it you will see it this side of christmas as the word on the grapevine say, it going to be released 1st Quarter 2011

Can I ask to see temps for that overclock? Also, unless I have missed it, was this cooled on air or water? (or even phase?)

Now that more and more Screenies are beginning to show up all over the net, the 990x is looking to be what the 980x should have been to begin with. Most of the screenies that i have seen show similar results, that is a very low Vcore for the clock.
But, as we all know, being able to post at 5.4ghz and grab a Cpuz shot, is not the same as being able to run anything meaningfull. Being able to run Vantage at around that speed is a bit Tasty though. Can't wait to get one of these under my Rotary SS and see how far it will go.

It ran through Vantage at that clock which was nice to see especially considering vantage is a little tough on the cpu compared to what CPUz can strain.

Yes, that's what drew my attention, rather than the Cpuz shot Lol.
I take it that you ran it through both the cpu tests in Vantage Andy ?

I did indeed along with the 2 gpu tests just to make sure it didn't fall over. In the end it was happier with a slightly higher base clock than multi which means more bandwidth so looking at it that way I think its actually quite reasonable. Not sure what sort of cooling would be required for an optimum 5ghz 24/7 rig mind.

A look in my sig should give you the answer to that ;)

I did - my jaw hit the floor lol

What are you cooling the E8600 with? that's a hell of an oc! I was happy with 4.1 out of my 8400....... Don't tell me you're cooling with air or I'm going to die of inadequacy lol

Lol.......................both the E8600 clock and the 975 clock are Phase cooled.
The E8600 with a modified Mach2 GT, and the 975 with a Rotary SS i built earlier this year.
