The Witcher - Enhanced Edition

If you have an x-fi you can use Alchemy to get it working.

I could have sworn the Witcher had OpenAL support though?

Was there any solution to getting EAX working under vista x64? I've tried a few things and gotten nowhere at all.

Download Creative Alchemy. Its because Vista removed the HAL for DirectSound, which means that sound is rendered in software and does not give hardware acceleration.. Alchemy works by using profiles for each game and enables EAX in The Witcher! :)

Should be able to get it from the Creative support section for your soundcard.

Edit: Meh.. Beaten to it! Me and my slow replies! :)

Yeah, it needs alchemy and a few files to fix it. Seems it's since the updates/Enhanced version, and I waited on that and skipped the original, so I'm not really sure. I had assumed that with it being new(ish) it would have been openal aswell. Cheers, though.

At least you seem to be quicker than me. :)

I think the few files I mentioned were for fixing a problem with EAX crashing the game. I tried the 'Newer Fix' in the first post in this thread on the Witcher forums.
So if I needed them or not, I'm not sure, but it's all running dandy with EAX now. I was getting slightly clipped dialogue and menu effects were playing twice, but upping the buffers to 5 seemed to sort that. Just posting this in case someone else has any grief.

Right, I'm about 2/3rds through act 2 now, and need to find a decent way to make money.

Dice doesn't cut it, as the opponents have limited dosh, and I have pretty much done all the side-quests.

I need 5k for new armour, hehe!

Ive just had about 5k just before that act ended. i didnt do any gambling, just quests. and selling any of the weapons i would pick up. no real get rich quick solutions that i know of :)

Right, just started Act 4, and am really getting annoyed by the sudden crashes I start getting.

Only ever happens during a transition load from one area to another :(

I installed it the other day, got down the dungeon bit early in the game...

then on a transition loading screen it crashed to desktop

aint been on since. damn thing! :(

The only crashes ive had are due to graphics card probs.

Im annoyed cause i only got around to googling the "lines" on characters when in conversations.
Turns out i just had to force Anisotropic filtering in the control panel and now its gone. Im amazed at how better it looks! :( :)

Hehe, the game is giving me WoW flashbacks.

Lakeside reminds me of Darkshore, Murky Waters/Fields of Westfall, and The Swamp of Dustwallow Marsh.

I like to pretend that the vodyanois are murlocs too :D

Only just got round to playing this after having it on my Steam for ages, can anyone recommend any mods for it? I found Full Combat Rebalance and some texture mod so far.

Wow this is the screen-tearingist game I've ever played.

Only just installed it on my new PC (i7, 6GB RAM, 5870 etc) and it just tears like a mad-man even with triple buffering and wait for V-sync.

Whats the difference? Is it just the Enhanced Edition at the latest patch or something? Don't recall there being any addons or DLC (i did get a couple of extra 'campaigns' when i upgraded to EE but they seemed a bit detached so died 5 mins in and never tried it again).

Probably the right version to go for though.
