As Axl, Slash and Izzy, they came up with some of the best hard rock / blues inspired stuff of the past 20 years. I won't go through em as many have been cited in this thread already.
But, as people have said, the Axl rose show that is touring under the name of G n' R is simply nothing more than a cover band, and Axl has quite simply gone bonkers. He was never far from being a frankly racist insane person as it was (and undoubtedly this is why he and Slash just couldn't work together any more as Slash seems like a much more amiable fellow).
Slash as a solo act on the other hand is still a joy to watch. He has surrounded himself with people who don't try and be Axl, and have their own work of merit which he joins them in. Just have a listen to the "Slash live in Manchester" gig from July if you can find a copy (only a few thousand were pressed as a live recording, they now sell on the bay for upwards of £100...).
Axl rose was a great showman and had a decent voice, Slash is a superb musician, The G n' R that mattered had them both in all wrapped up solidly by Izzy Stradlin.
So, what do I think of G n' R? I think that they were a genuine top shelf hard rock band until 1993 (i'll let them have The Spaghetti Incident?) but after that, they simply became the solo career of Axl Rose who is so egocentric he can't see that all they were was a joint effort and not him alone.
