***The Official Gran Turismo 5 Thread***

perhaps you need to drop your fanboi levels or stop dreaming things.
i have it hooked up to studio monitors and there is nothing special about the car sounds i have heard so far. It is the same story for all cars. Turbos sound identical, gearboxes sound identical, engines are identical, everything is the same except the fact they move the sound pitch a bit up or down.

Watch the Furai video I posted and then come tell me if the Furain in game sounds like that. Or maybe that reality check would hurt your fainboi feelings

"fanboi" I'm not, this is my first GT game...

I never said the car sounds are accurate but your silly comment about all the cars sounding the same is rubbish. Just take the Zonda or Yellow Bird as examples they are extremely different sounding..

yes because the pitch is different. sorry that does not qualify as new sound. so far the only distinct sound i got in my garage is from my murcielago, and i am still not convinced because it just sounds like they increased the pitch by half an octave and called it a day.

there is more to sound that just higher or lower frequencies. the fact that all heavily tuned cars sound exactly the same, tells me that they have decided to apply a sound effect to the pro gearbox and the racing exhaust and they made that predominant over the engine sound. Case in point: GTR V-Spec sounds exactly the same as RX7 which in turn sounds exactly the same as most of my other cars. I am calling it as I am hearing it and after lots of studio work I have done, i don't think my ears are failing me yet.

What are you on about? Loads of the cars sound completely different and many are very distinstic. I think you might need your hearing tested...

What cars have you guys been using for Like the Wind? I heard earlier in the thread that a Corvette ZR1 fully kitted out does it but 700k odd is a lot to blow on a car I might not use again. Nothing else I have seems to have the power to weight ratio needed (Veyron, Zonda R etc). I have the money *just* for the Ford GT LM Spec II Test Car, but as I can't see the specs I'm wondering if it will lose its usefulness later on.

Also is there a way to change the tyres or in A-Spec does it just auto pick the best ones you have for the unrestricted races?

I used a Mazda Furai for the Indy race and a Veyron for Daytona. Both were fully tuned.

Any tips for the Veyron on Daytona? What did you have the transmission top speed set at? I found I lost most of my speed during the the corners as it isn't banked and the race cars just went flying past me. Seems they don't need to slow down anywhere near as much for those corners.

I had the transmission top speed set to around 360-370 I think, but I never went above 230 mph so you could lower the top speed so you'd get better acceleration. Here's the rest of the set-up I used:

Ride Height: - 3 Front -1 Rear
Spring Rate: 13.5 Front 15 Rear
Damper Extension and Compression: 5 Front 7 Rear
Anti-roll Bars: 3 Front 4 Rear

The drive-train was set to 30/70 Front/Rear, and I used soft slicks. The key thing is to use the Veyron's monstrous acceleration to leapfrog them at the start, then slow down enough for corners and just accelerate out as cleanly as possible.

I have not repeated any races yet, apart from going for gold and I don't plan to go back for grinding. If the game brings me to a point where I am broke and I have to grind then I will just drop it.

repeating races for extra cash has always been a part of GT, if this is something you don't like doing then why buy the same series again and again ?

My god the collision detection is so inconsistent. Example: accidentally ploughed into a VW van on the Top Gear track at Hammerhead- no problem. Brushed someone else at Bacharach- disqualified :-/

Equally, I notice the AI are allowed to do whatever they want- on the straight before Bacharach I've got a decent gap to the van behind, but somehow it still manages to get a slipstream/catch up/whatever and proceeds to bumper car my van.

Exactly! You'd think some people have never played GT before they way they're moaning on all the time. So what if it's more of the same, that's what most people wanted anyway. If you want something different go play FM3, or GRID etc.

For me it's exactly what I wanted, GT for my PS3. Until now the PS3 hadn't had a decent driving game, and this is just perfect.

People moaning about it getting repetitive, maybe you shouldn't play for 10 hours a day, any game'll get boring if you hammer it that much. I'm planning on making this last me months before completion, I'm in no rush what so ever.

Get over yourself. If you hate the game that much, sell it. You moan about "fanboi"s, yet to me you seem to be shouting the loudest, yet not listening, making you what? A stringent anti-"fanboi"? It's a game, play it.

I hear that! You see them wander over the line, bump each other/you, yet don't get disqualified...

Leaving that race alone for now.

I bought a 2nd hand Logitech Driving Force EX yesterday, connected it and went to the Nascar Special events and golded them in a few tries, so much easier.

But is it normal that controlling cars and especially braking is more difficult?
I found that under braking my Gallardo would slide much more compared to the pad, also I am about a second slower with the wheel compared to the pad, is it normal that I struggle or am I missing some setup settings?

It advises a GTR '07 in a lot of races but wouldn't it be better to get a GTR V-Spec '09 instead or will that car be excluded from races?

I imagine you will need to learn how to modulate the brakes with the wheel coming straight from the pad, will just take practice but should in the long run work out a lot faster :)

Eiger Nordwind Special Event Grand Tour in the Alfa is HARSH. I'm tenth's of a second of silver and thats after a good hour trying. I can either get the first part right or the last part right but never at the same time grr Awesome game, v glad I added all my own music though.

yeah spent a while on that as well, got silver but no idea how I would get gold :D

Hahaha, aw man, I love that. It's almost as good as the "I can tell it's a photoshop from the pixels and the number of 'shops I've seen in my time" :D.

I'm absolutely not saying your wrong, frankly I couldn't care less, but it's never a good idea to justify your insulting rant by saying how qualified you are to make that rant. Kinda makes you out to be a ****.

Most people find it takes a good while to get used to a wheel, braking won't help as I'd imagine on a 'cheap' wheel like the EX that there's only a tiny amount of resistance to the brake pedal (the pedal on the G25 is fairly 'stiff' which makes it a lot easier to modulate imo, but then it costs many times more than the EX so it should be better :p)

But also with the steering, just the whole thing takes a while to get used to but you should be able to beat your pad times before too long quite easily.

Don't get me started on that one, I tried it about a billion times and got a 1:17.038, so near yet so far, I'm fairly sure the last corner is where I can make up the last half a tenth or so to get gold, going in quicker for the first bit then on the brakes and out wide to get the second apex, but with the bump in the braking zone it's not great, especially with this car as I 'need' to run with no ABS/TC in order to get it cornering nicely around the hairpins (read semi-controlled drifting :p)

I've given up for the time being though, once the memory has dulled a bit I might go back and aim for gold again :p

Want! Got me a standard Hachi that I've been messing about with, so much fun :)

I *think* there's another one in there for me now, if you want it? (and assuming it's only events and not time that changes the dealership, noticed it last night and won't get back on it till ~6 ish this evening)

I guess I should not have used a Gallardo for testing as I found that it's a bitch to drive anyway, understeering too much and nerveous when braking hard.

Another thing that might cause the braking problem is that the force feedback might mess up the braking as it causes a slight steering action causing the rear to slide out, does that sound logical?
