Just read this article on the BBC News website...basically a bunch of black footballers went into Pizza Hut and were asked to pay in advance for their meal, after a spate of food theft. The police advised Pizza Hut to implement this control. Suddenly it's turned into a racist poo storm, as apparently a group of white lads later went in and were not asked to pay in advance.
So, blatant racism or another example of political correctness gone mad?
My view is that this could easily be just an administrative error rather than a deliberate ploy to single out certain groups. Maybe I'm being naive...either the duty manager actively singled out the group as he felt they may not pay, or he made a mistake in not spotting the white lads in time. Or...he used his judgement and felt that the white lads were less rowdy, younger, dressed in a more middle class fashion...
AFC Bournemough club chairman said: "In this day and age, it is upsetting to hear that people are treated differently because of the colour of their skin and at AFC Bournemouth, we will not condone any treatment of people in such a way."
How does he KNOW it was due to the colour of their skin and not just a mistake? People are far to quick to jump on the bandwagon and it helps no-one.
PS I can understand the players anger as Pizza Hut is awesome, especially stuffed crust double pepperoni! In all seriousness I'm not sure how cheesed off I'd be if I was asked to pay in advance for my meal. I frequently do this when I eat at pubs...just pay at the bar at time of order as I know I'm not going to order any more drinks.
I can understand their anger if they felt that it was racist and without seeing the event, I couldn't judge for myself really. I just dont think the chairman's comments are helpful and make huge assumptions. His interests are only in defending his players, not making rational sensible statements.
My final comment is that we cannot take away people's ability to use judgement calls and common sense. Not everything is 'black and white'

.BBC said:Pizza Hut has apologised to a group of black League One footballers who claim they were racially discriminated against at a restaurant.
The five AFC Bournemouth players said they were told they would have to pay for their meal before being served.
Pizza Hut, which has started an investigation, apologised but said the actions were not racially motivated.
It said there had been cases where customers had left without paying and they were following police advice.
