ATI cuts 6950 allocation

Hi there

Thats all I have compared against so far, I wanted to compare it against what it replaces.

I shall grab a 580 to run against later today or tomorrow. :)

I think it will be slower in some things and nearly as fast in others, but not faster!

Difference will be availability and substancially cheaper. :)

there we have it then

He hasn't tested it yet against 580. he thinks 6970 may be slower. It may be right or may be not. Only after he has tested it then we can know. Btw what driver will gibbo be using as people seem to mention that 6970 is being tested with different drivers at different places:confused:.

But if it gives 90% of the performance and is a third cheaper it will sell very well.

Which is what AMD do so well. :)

I forget which thread that AMD graphics hierarchy chart shows the positioning of the 6900's amongst the nvidia competition. I remember the 6970 sat just below the 580, leaving I guess Antilles to take first place. Almost certainly turns out that this chart was all we really needed to look at. Things will be shaken up a little when nividia release a dual gpu card which will of course then go up against AMD's dual offering, that will be interesting. Nvidia haven't released a dual gpu since January 2009 so I guess it's quite possible that they might take this crown back.

come off it
they will of been playing with this card since last week, or when ever it came into the warehouse
i reckon they know exactly what it does and doesn't do 5870 and 580 compared

There is some good news for me and all other owners of aging GPUs if this is true. If it's just going to a fairly pitiful release which is how it's sounding from both Gibbo and rj in another thread then I will skip this and wait for 28nm releases from both sides. Certainly seems to be the advice I will be giving ppl after Wednesday. Hope i'm wrong!

It's faster than a 5870, that's a good start then. Pricing is key here, we are looking at 570 performance maybe worse, as I have already stated I expect £300 for the 6970 and £250 for the 6950.

@ raven and migicroundabout

have you heard back from the contacts ?

Yeah he got back, apparently they were testing 6950 crossfire as well as a 6970, he got the results mixed up, doh.
