ATI cuts 6950 allocation

If the 6970 hits at £300 I think it will do very well, a 2GB card with 570 performance and some new features will do well at the stated price, much higher and you may as well go 570.

Damn, you got there before me :D

you can already buy a 570 for £240 or thereabouts if you know how to look, so even £300 looks like a lot of money if the performance shown is true.

What is your friend saying these days btw? :)

Erm actually where is the competition for the 6970, looking around the usual suspects I see practically no stock or stock at prices around the £450 mark for the 580.

Yeah 570 and 580 stock is drying up big time but are still available for less than £300 and £400 respectively.

It's faster than a 5870, that's a good start then. Pricing is key here, we are looking at 570 performance maybe worse, as I have already stated I expect £300 for the 6970 and £250 for the 6950.

Yeah he got back, apparently they were testing 6950 crossfire as well as a 6970, he got the results mixed up, doh.

So he was quoting Crossfire HD6950 numbers ?

i think if the performance is as low as we are seeing/guessing and nvidia can pump some 570/580 stock out i can see amd losing a lot of customers that they won with the 4800/5800 cards

Not if its only 1.2-1.3 times faster than the HD5870. Really it should be a direct replacement, maybe $25 less if the yields are as good as it seems.
