*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

got rc5 on lastnight its great

anyone else having random reboots? where the phone restarts and just sits at the oxygen boot screen in a loop. battery pull is the only way out

happened once on rc2 once on rc4 and lastnight on rc5 woke at around 4am and it was doing it. everytime its happened the phone is very hot

not overclocked

I have been having the same issue with RC4... really don't know what is causing it :(

Is it fair to say handcent notifications Leds don't work with any of the oxygen RC roms? ?

I thought that too. But I found it was nothing to do with the rom. I had to disable the screen on and then I got the LED notification when I received the text.

settings > notification settings > untick screen on

Actually dead easy. I did it last night.

Download the iso from alpharev and Universal USB Installer

Run the latter and choose any linux distro, point to the iso and let it build your usb stick. Reboot your laptop (or use another PC like i did) and boot into USB stick. Connect your Desire whilst its actually running normally (and in USB Debug mode), let the software do its thing.

You are now s-off'd. Download the Oxygen img file and use the Android SDK(what is this? And where do I get it?), command prompt yourself to Fastboot.exe and use the commands to push the img

:)

Took maybe 5 mins

Still not sure, the using android sdk bit to get fastboot then push an img puts me off, I think I understand how to s off though.

s-off
download daemon tools mount alpharev18.iso
download virtual box set it to use the virtual drive created by daemon
boot xp mode
follow instructions
you have to allow the usb connection in VB by clicking right ctrl to release mouse then devices/usb/htcdesireusb and on boot same again to enable the android v1 driver

done s-off

Really? I find the camera pitifully slow, my old N95 was better! I should point out that my photographic subjects are usually moving so the massive lag is a nightmare. I also find t very susceptible to the slightest movement.

Agreed... You practically have to brace yourself against something to take a pic or it ends up blurry :(

I think thats the easier bit out of the lot. In the SDK folders is a folder called "tools", in here is a "fastboot.exe". Navigate to that directory through CMD and then type fastboot followed by the command in the alpharev guide. :)

On the alpharev site it says about data2ext shouldn't be used, if I have a memory card with a2sd partition will this cause problems?

I know I have asked before, but is s-off required for anything?

S-OFF is required to give you write access to certain areas of the system partition. Without it a lot of changes cannot be made like changing roms.

Changing roms? But I already use Oxygen 1.0.4.

Will I not be able to use the new Gingerbread version unless I S-OFF?

I was told by Paul @ MoDaCo that if I wanted to change from a stock rom on my Desire I needed unrevoked to get root access then alpharev to s-off.

More info:

S-OFF – What And Why?

In their devices, HTC have installed a sort of security check whose level is determined by S-OFF/S-ON. Essentially, this security level is a flag stored on the device’s radio that checks signature images for any firmware before it is allowed to be written to system memory. This hinders using any custom ROMs, splash images, recovery etc., and also restricts access to the NAND flash memory. However, when security level is set to S-OFF, the signature check is bypassed, allowing a user to upload custom firmware images, unsigned boot, recovery, splash and HBOOT images, as well as official firmware that has been modified, this enabling maximum customization of your HTC Android device.

Furthermore, S-OFF also reduces restrictions on accessing the NAND flash memory on the device, allowing all partitions (including /system) to be mounted in write mode while the operating system is booted.

I didn't try miui in the end ¬_¬

Instead I flashed the DeFrost 6.0c HAVS 875mv kernel to test out battery consumption. So far everything is stable from gaming to video watching to general usage I have to say!
