Insurance prices = WOW :|

Insurance on my BMW has gone up by £300

Tried switching companies? My mums went up by about that much so she went with someone else.

How many years no claims/ how long have you been driving?

Due to not controlling my money properly i have had 2 insurance policies just for the clio, so i didnt rack up 1 ync :( Ive had my licence for around 26 months

But i havnt had an accident or anything which is highly frustrating.

Theres nothing i can do really, atleast ive learnt from the last mistake and am now saving for a car :)

I got quotes from other insurers but they're all pretty much the same. I actually don't know how much my renewal will be (due end of this month) as I haven't received a renewal letter yet, but i'm preparing myself for the worse :p

Your crazy get something cheap to insure for a year to build up age/driving time/ncb

The thing is i need to buy a car which will last a few years and hopefully not costy me too much in repairs as when i start paying insurance i wont be having much money to spare for savings.

Hense finding this nice alfa, its the best one ive seen for a long time and im always googling these cars.

Plus it isnt much cheaper to insure a clapped out old car then it is to get myself a nice 02 plate alfa

Have you added your parents as named drivers?

Yeah but you have to be the main driver so it dosnt take anything off, sometimes even adds on money.

It must be your postcode then as anything like a clio, saxo, pug 106 etc (Which will last for years with minimum problems) would be half what you are going to pay for an alfa!
Have you reaserched the running costs for them?

TPF&T has always been more expensive for me.
Change your post code.
Add parents.
Try a car not known for being driven by young people (Mondeo 2.0 cheaper to insure for me than a Fiesta 1.4 when I was 17)
etc...

Why does being a 'mechanical engineer' make you less likely to crash than someone who works in Boots?

I'm 21, drive a 180bhp nippy modded hatchback - I paid £425 this year fully comp.

What happened to the Clio then?

Arent you the guy with a huge excess though? I may be completely wrong about that as it could be someone else!

Sounds like a good price, expecially if the re-map is declared, who are you with

Amazing.

What the hell, im 21 years old and im a mechanical engineer, i thought that insurance would maybe be a little lower.

Anyone else struggling with cheap quotes at the mo?

Cheers,

James.

The insurer deems your age, experience and profession as a risk that equates the cost of insuring you to drive at around £1500.

That is your explanation.

Methinks that's almost entirely down to his location :p I'm 21 next month, graduating this summer with a BEng in Mechanical Engineering, no NCB and a 3.5 litre V8 Range Rover would set me back ~£900 for the year in a nice postcode :D All I need to do is find one that doesn't require several thousands of pounds of welding now :p

It's down to £1000 now I'm 21, last year it was £1400, but how else could I legally insure a 7sec to 60 180bhp modded car at 19/20 for £450~!

I'm glad I did it, despite my knock :)

Thats one hell of an excess. What was the knock? Did you have to pay your excess?

OP is complaining about money, getting royally shafted on a way, way overpriced Clio, he can't find any car insurance for less than 3 grand and wants to buy an Alfa Romeo in the hopes that it won't cost much to run and maintain...
