Then you get swarf in the fuel.
It's inconvenient to fill up more often but at the moment I can't afford to lost over £90 in fuel to a scrote.

Surely it is more the damage to the tank that is the concern as it will cost more than the fuel?

Generally (I have put thay word in there to stop people complaining) the common small time thief isn't a thief because he has qualifications and is switched on

Kinda off topic: How big are the tanks on trucks? I've seen some trucks have them blatantly on show, surely they have some anti-theft devices to prevent this?

Incidentally, the one place I have had fuel stolen from my truck was when I parked overnight behind Homebase, Warwick Rd, Kensington! "Rough area" has sod all to do with it, its oppertunist.
Depends on the size of truck, anything upto 1500litres.
Yes, they have anti-syphon devices on the filler neck, not much use though, thieves either pull out the fuel sender or punch a hole in the tank.
Trucks have tanks "Blatantly on show" as they tend to be a bit big to hide....

Yeah I get the fact they are too big to be hidden away, but I would have thought they'd have some sort of casing or some such which would prevent drilling.
They have a case, its the tank itself.
A truck is all about payload capacity, adding such a casing would merely add weight to the chassis & decrease the trucks payload, and thus, its profitability.
Whilst fuel theft is a pain in the rear, it does not warrant such solutions.
Yeah I guess that makes sense. Is it a common problem for you guys? I know most the trucks use truck stops and other secure places these days but that's nothing to do with the fuel more with the carry load. Has it happend to you before? My friend used to drive for Stobart and mentioned it happened to quite a few of his collegues.

.I don't even have a diesel but as Red Diesel is about 56p per litre, what is the punishment if you are caught using it on a road car?
56p compared to 130p for white diesel. The court fine would have to be substancial.

Fairly common, if you don't park for the night in the right area.
As per my previous post, I've had fuel stolen in Kensington of all places! otherwise, just a few attempts (I disturbed them each time).
A good example is Rawcliffe Road, Goole. Outside the large Tesco distribution centre, lots of Stobart trucks used to park outside overnight, trouble was, it was open land with nothing in the surroundng areas. The lucky ones lost just fuel, one driver woke up to find his truck would not start - the ****** had stolen both his fuel and his batteries!
They now park on-site overnight, which whilst secure, its noisy and not ideal for getting a decent nights kip.

All the more reason to limit my losses should I need to replace a tank.
I'd rather pay for a tank and £20 worth of diesel than a tank and £90 worth of diesel.
This is only a temporary measure.
