you dont pay tax between ages 16-18.
I do.
Because I can earn more than £7k per year.
I can claim it back eventually though

I'd go with letting them know your putting a small amount away each month rather than spending it on rubbish so you can buy a new pc. So that your not using all your wages in one go. That way when you say your buying a new pc you still have plenty of money to spend on other things.
I would also not spend too much. I'd go for about £4-500 and than you can get extra ram/HD/a better gfx card part by part (if your gfx card is ok just now).
You are old enough to buy what you want but you live under their roof and so have to abide by their rules.
Im confused. His parents are clearly morons, why can't he just make it so the pc doesn't boot? Why does it need to be dead? Scanning through the posts didn't seem to answer this burning question in my mind.
Simples, take the mobo battery out. If thats soldered in then reseat a module of ram so that it doesn't sit properly and the pc will never boot or set the pc to try and run 400 fBS on stock volts, it will never boot. Or undervolt your ram to like 1.3v. So many possibilities.
If you wana kill it just pick the top setting on the voltages for your cpu, might take out several other things. As was discovered earlyer today a 2500k actually killed a whole test bed!
Shove the PSU in a microwave, and saythe computer exploded.
Nah joking, a better plan is to actually upgrade in the summer if you're going to university this year. Say this is required for the course you're doing, as your current one does not meet with the minimum specs the course programs requires.
... Also by "coincidence" your current PC dies too in the summer by erm, "natural overheating" *cough*.
Parents have decided I -need- a laptop for Uni because it won't get stolen and its portable - LOL.
I was thinking netbook and then desktop. Portability and then a PC with some power for the applications I'll be using.
Course I'm doing is chemistry however, so Dad and I both know that there won't be anything needing a great deal of power.
Both parents have PhD's, not quite moronsJust ignorant at times, and stubborn.
Similarly, Dad knows a fair bit about computers and would establish if ram wasn't seated or cable was loose or somehow battery had disappeared![]()
Chemical, feel free mateI won't stop you.
LAN idea is unfortunately a no-go. Whilst parents don't completely object to letting me game, they aren't exactly fans of it. Hence, not ever going to be able to go to a LAN whilst I'm under this roof.
Mum's PhD is in research microbiology, specifically microbes that cause food poisoning.
Dad's is in Physical Engineering (he's done very well for himself, effectively came from lower class working family).
I have used that argument with laptops, but they reason that I'll be home most weekends to see the girlfriend (lives in same area, and is 1 year younger - waits forHe's a paedo
) so laptop won't be stuck there over the weekends. Naive imo, but that's their (own certainly my mums viewpoint).
Broken capacitor sounds a good idea (but how would I explain it), as does swapping a red and yellow lead on the 24pin connector.
