****The Nintendo 3DS Thread****

Eurogamer have slammed Nintendo on their podcast, over the price of the console, the price of games, the poor launch line up... They did, however, acknowledge that things should pick up in about 6 months to a year once the developers get stuck in.

Yeah I can't see me picking one up anytime soon. Even then it will just be for use in bed or when I'm playing Eve. Will be keeping an eye on PSP2 as well.

Edit: Do DS games work on the 3DS in the cartridge things or is is digital?

All DS games will work on there.

Well, barring the handful that made use of the GBA slot, but that got axed way back with the DSi, so it's not too much of a big deal.

Hear hear.
(or see see?)

I dont know about the developers getting stuck in, they dont know what to do with the Wii, so what will they do with 3D?

On a very popular online store (not sure on competitors rules...) they have dropped the price down to £202.

I think Nintendo were very clever. Don't set an RRP and then let retailers drive each other down to just above wholesale price :D

See I think the opposite, Nintendo should have said RRP £199.99, we are selling you it for £160 (I think) and if you want to knock money off the 200 you can.

Yeah just looked there, very nice little saving on my pre-order :)

Another thing I heard on the Eurogamer podcast... Apparently there is no such thing as an RRP. There can be a suggested retail price, but they can't force a retailer to sell an item at a given price.

They give the retailer the cost price per unit. The retailer decides on the price based on their margins. Stores with similar buying power will gravitate to a similar price. Some will maximise profit per unit. Others will go for volume, or use the item as a loss leader.

Not entirely true. The company still has control over who buys their product, in terms of direct sales, or even distributors, and can refuse to deal with customers.
Apple as an example are quite well known in the retail world for refusing to stock/withholding stock if they're unhappy, and tend to try and control prices quite heavily.

Eurogamer are (pardon the french) s**** anyway.

I'd agree with any other website if they said that though :D

F-Zero GX was ace. It would work well in 3D.

Pikmin is my most wanted game though.

That would be immense, though I'd easily be just as amazed if F-Zero X was put on to it with multiplayer.

I REALLY hope they get multiplayer right on this, I hear you only need one friend code but friend code's are such a farce I don't see why they're still using them. their online friend system is really poor because of it.

While I agree it could be better this is Nintendo they don’t do online well, getting them to use only one friend code is they best we could hope for, any ways its no different from swapping phone numbers with some one.

A few of my mates complained about the '3dness' going out of sync and it looking like a normal game and they also got headaches and tired eyes from it.
Other than that I think it's ok, no where near as good as watching something like Avatar in 3d. Can't really say much more than that as the title I tested hasn't been announced yet.
Seems that a lot of people are going to struggle with the 3d side of things.
