January Transfer Window 2010/2011 Season Rumours/Signings

A sudden and massive jump in their Suarez bid right after they get bids for Torres doesn't scream to anyone else of making sure they get the deal done before the window is over so they aren't left without a striker. Nor screams they suddenly think they'll have more money available?

As for Adam's passing stats vs Alonso, different years, a completely different league and less good players around him.

How often does having good/fast wingers in the past one of Gerrards 50 yard passes into a corner look like a great pace when Bellamy or Garcia managed to catch up to it.

Better players read passes better, Fabregas VERY rarely has a bad game but people who try long distance or more attacking passing will invariably have lower pass completion rates, Song often beats Fabregas in that respect, is Song a better passer? Adam's is also more attacking than Alonso was, you're basically talking about the sitting midfield player in Alonso vs a box to box player in Adams. The further forward you get often shows a worse pass completion rate.

Adam's is decent, and this is not to mention that Alonso went for 30million didn't he. So not sure where the argument of not worth 10-15mil stacks up with, not as good as Alonso, unless of course Alonso was also sold for 10-15mil. Adam's isn't exactly the worlds best player but, Babel, whose done essentially nothing for 3 years just went for 6-7million.

Poor old @GuillemBalague. He might have an odd beard, and inconsistent delivery from the right flank, but he's going to be owed apologies.

Got some links? I find it spectacularly unlikely. The major media will be all over Liverpool today , you can bet your bottom penny that if Torres had handed in an official transfer request, every major sports media would know right now. But I don't see any mention of it at any major media location , just as outside of what Balague has said, I see no mention of Torres wanting to go. I will believe if presented with evidence and proof, but so far all I have seen is rumour and speculation based upon seemingly nothing.

It's a great buy for Liverpool not only for the talent Suarez brings in but also the sign that they can still attract good players when the performances are down.

I know some die-hard Liverpool fans might scoff at the suggestion that it's surprising they can get a player like Suarez but I certainly am slightly shocked they have managed it.

Could be an interesting moment in their season without a doubt.

Not really no, because I do not know, nor does anyone on here, that it was a sudden and massive jump as I don't know just how close they really were before. On top of that, there is only 3 days remaining of the window and Ajax had stated that they agree by tomorrow or its a definite no-go, so wouldn't surprise me that they finally agreed a price today.

Would be a blow if true but better strikers than him have left and coincidently it was when Dalglish first got the job. Things didn't work out too badly then.

Either make him stay until the summer or make Chelsea pay major money for him if he wants to go now.

It was only posted on his twitter account @robbohuyton but someone said Torres has asked for a transfer, He said he'd heard the same thing and when asked if he believes it he said yes.

Tony Evans also said he had a bad feeling about Torres now but we all know he's wrong most of the time.

Would be past a blow, unless this has been on the cards for weeks and thus the club is ready to sign a replacement (like, tomorrow.. otherwise we can kiss a win vs stoke goodbye ), otherwise theres just not enough time to source out replacement.
And then, who do you replace him with? there are literally none even half as good available, anywhere. Suarez is a good player, young and with bags of potential but he's not 50% of a Torres, yet.

Can you think of any Strikers worth signing? my minds a blank. If he goes, this will hurt LFC dramatically.

Not to mention the 5th window in a row we made a profit, 3 in a row £15m+ profit.

I'd stick money on it being a load of nonsense then. I mean , I've heard the same thing and "someone" has said that Torres has asked for a transfer :)

I maintain that if something as sportingly significant as Torres handing in a transfer request, every sports news website and tv channel would be all over it by now, but.... nothing.

Well no liverpool fan including me would want Torres to go, But can any of us blame us if he did? After what has happened at our club in last couple years hardly been best of times.

Again its Chelsea though who have tried for the last three seasons to get him, And no disrespect to Chelsea for Torres i dont see it as a massive upgrade their squad needs allot of investment too MAY and i stress MAY not get champions league football this year so he would be in exact same position as he is now.

Alpherah, Would be a massive lost and to answer your question i dont think he is replaceable only strikers that come to mind who i think would do well for us is Fernando Llorentte or Aquero but i highly doubt either would leave their club should worst happen.

If you sign up to the Times for £1 you'll see they're already running tomorrow's story.

Tony Barrett is confirming that Torres spoke to the club today and requested they continue negotiations with Chelsea but hasn't put in a transfer request.

Fernando Torres has told Liverpool that he wants to leave, a move that will only fuel Chelsea’s confidence that an improved bid will allow them to sign the striker before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday.

The Barclays Premier League champions are prepared to offer £40 million in cash plus Daniel Sturridge, the England Under-21 striker, whom Liverpool inquired about taking on loan last month.

Liverpool rejected a straight cash offer of £35 million for Torres on Thursday and maintain that he is not for sale, but Chelsea are hopeful of capitalising on the player’s disenchantment at Anfield to get the deal done.
The Spaniard has not issued a written transfer request but has made it clear in a phone conversation with club officials that he would like Liverpool to enter formal negotiations with Chelsea.

Liverpool’s official position is that Torres, 26, is not for sale, but they would consider cashing in if he is adamant he wants to leave.

Yesterday, the Anfield club agreed to sign Luis Suárez, the Uruguay striker, from Ajax in a deal that could be worth £22.8 million. Suárez was signed to complement Torres, but there are increasing concerns that the pair may never play together. Liverpool also had a £6.5 million bid for Charlie Adam rejected by Blackpool .
By confirming Chelsea’s bid on Thursday, Liverpool have effectively put the ball in Torres’s court by placing the onus on him to force through the transfer. It is understood that his contract includes a buy-out clause enabling him to leave for £50 million, which was introduced by the previous Liverpool regime but comes into force only at the end of the season.

The West London club had a £25 million bid for Torres, who would be available for the remainder of Chelsea’s Champions League campaign, rejected last summer. They remain in negotiations with Benfica over David Luiz and have offered £24 million plus Nemanja Matic for the Brazil defender.

aidan's saved you £1.

Going by what Tony Barrett's saying, if Torres wants to leave, he's going to have to force the issue. Unsurprising really, no board is going to want to be seen as selling their best player, especially when they've only just taken over.

Apparently Torres has said that his preferred destination is Man United weakening Chelsea's hand a little. That's the word on the street.

I still maintain that something like that would be being covered widely by the media, with multiple sources. At the end of the day, we will know within 72 hours one way or the other, but personally I am fairly happy that come February we will all know that it was all nothing and just the odd sportswriter trying to make a name with a "blockbuster" headline.

Crap thing is if any of it is remotely true which i doubt as its unlike Torres and contridicts what he said roughly 2 weeks ago it has taken all the attention anyway from our positive signing as that will likely get pushed from the spot light so to speak.

Well it is. Balague reported it this morning and the Guardian this afternoon, now the Times (with at least 2 very well connected reds) are saying the same.

Whether he stays or goes is another matter but it looks very likely that he's made it clear 1 way or another that he's open to joining Chelsea.

edit: If true and I suspect it is, then we've got either make it clear he's not leaving til the summer at the earliest or Chelsea have got to make a stupidly big offer.

A more likely scenario imo is this...

Torres who has said in the past that he was upset at the lack of investment in players by owners, said when the chelsea bid came in, if you aren't going to spend the big cash to catch up to other teams then I would like you to consider selling me, at which stage Liverpool shoved 23 million for Suarez to show Torres that they were indeed serious about spending. Thereby placating Torres , who of course only 2 weeks ago said he intended to see out his contract at Liverpool.

I'd not be surprised to see a statement released by Torres in the next 24 hours saying, Nah, I ain't going nowhere.
