New PS3 firmware 3.56

If this keeps hacks offline then i am no longer that fussed about all of this firmware hacking malarky. Good news for me basically.

Sonys is a sneaker lil thing aint they?

So basically,

So they can interogate your PS3 without your knowledge and remove any software they havent signed (prob some table somewhere) and remove the items from your HDD. If i used CFW i would be removing my system from the internet as i see a big ban hammer approaching. Activision have also started banning cheaters on the PS3 from codblops permantly.:D

/\ This tbh

The keys were out within hours of the new FW release, the only way Sony can make it awkward (as this is the best they can do) is to release a FW update every other day and hope the modders loose interest in dissecting and modifying it.

There are already workarounds, and the 3.56 keys have already been found and published. A CFW 3.56 is only days away.

There is NOTHING Sony can do to stop homebrew now, each and every new update will be easily dissected and modified, the ONLY way it can be stopped is new hardware.

Hmmm. Who is correct people who read internet forums and proclaim NOTHING can be done? Not getting on a high horse or anything but you two constantly claim NOTHING can be done, and Hackers have won, and hackers are smart etc. Clearly something can be done, and without releasing new hardware, they are able to put measures in place.

At the end of the day, everyone in this thread, would feel differently if they owned IPs or some sort of desired copyrighted content that people just felt the right to take without paying for, not just games devs, any industry really.

So long as Sony steps up and bans hacked consoles from using PSN I don't see the issue.

If you bought the hardware you have the right to use it as you please.

What it means as far as i can tell is that sony can alter security at any point without updating firmware. Saw this posted
Jan 27 14:44:32 <Mathieulh> 3.56 has nice new stuffs in there :P
Jan 27 14:44:43 <Mathieulh> like remote code execution upon login
Jan 27 14:44:45 <Sorrowuk> They will just release patches so people who have hacked cant go online
Jan 27 14:44:46 <Mathieulh> yummy :P
Jan 27 14:44:50 <no one> WAT
Jan 27 14:45:00 <no one> RFE built-in the fw!?
Jan 27 14:45:25 <Mathieulh> 3.56 pretty much has a built in psn rootkit
Jan 27 14:45:30 <no one> dude, that's the only stuff i'd be afraid of
Jan 27 14:45:31 <Mathieulh> don't tell me I haven't warned you
Jan 27 14:45:43 <Sorrowuk> psn rootkit ?
Jan 27 14:46:05 <no one> but if we could rip-off the fw that **** would be erased
Jan 27 14:46:20 <no one> that was the only thing stopped sony to _auto_ update your fw
Jan 27 14:46:22 <Mathieulh> no one it's not that simple
Jan 27 14:46:29 <Mathieulh> the server awaits a proper reply
Jan 27 14:46:34 <Mathieulh> and that reply isn't in the firmware

From this i see that the correct response is hidden server side and can change at any point without anyone knowing. Without that response you cant log onto PSN, and sony can flag your console/account for the banhammer. And as know one knows when or what this is looking for as its not in the firmware its going to be quite hard for hackers to sort it. I assume once it has happened its to late as they have a record of you using CFW/Homebrew/psn hacks etc its just a matter of time, even if the hackers manage to do something with 3.56 its prob to late already.

All that is depending on the hacker updating to OFW, which off course they won't be lol

Then (and I don't know the ins and outs so I may be wrong), they can't get on PSN, without risking being detected and/or banned. So for "legit" users it means the "integrity" of the network remains, yes?

Bar a bit of forum outcry, most people couldn't care less if other people pirate/hack stuff as long as it doesn't ruin their enjoyment.

I know there are all manner of people out there stealing/breaking laws etc that I wouldn't. Doesn't really bother me unless it has a direct effect on me.

Whenever I read a 'pirate' justifying their reasons for downloading games, all I think is 'you simpleton'. There are a few of them on these very forums, and they've always been like it.

Really, these people are so short-sighted and oblivious to the harm they are doing to the industry as a whole (and therefore themselves as the consumer)..it just blows my mind.

Just look at the PC gaming industry: it's on its knees. Games that would usually sell for £30-odd quid are being put on Steam for £2 upwards no. They wouldn't be doing that if money was being made! It's a dying platform and mainly because of the massive levels of piracy that's infected every aspect of it. Publishers are backing off from it and putting their efforts in to console gaming more and more these days.

Game pirates = ***** simpletons.

hahahahahahaha! *breath*

hahahaha! You're funny. :D

Course not but it will also mean that they wont be on PSN soon, seems like the system is not in use completely yet as proxy still works for some, but it is there so at some point it will be activated. Maybe its collecting info then they will wait for a big MP game to arrive and then ban all the offenders, bit like MS have done close to a COD or HALO release.

DMCA Takedowns - The next Step in the Sony vs. Hackers soap opera...........

I think Sony have sat down and the words "where do we go from here" have been spoken, I think Sony are doing their best to keep PSN clean, but as far as the CFW goes I think the battle has been lost.
