Australian Open 2011

The way they do tennis is dumb one player gets an extra days rest / recovery can make all the difference.

I'd love for Murray to win but I really fancy Djoko for the final. He'll be more fresh with an extra day of recovery and has just been playing with a little more consistency, both of which are going to be key on Sunday, as there should be a lot of long points.

I worry too many people are going to think the fact that Djokovic isn't Federer or Nadal means Murray will walk it, when he blatantly won't. It's going to be extremely hard for him. Djokovic is excellent on the hard courts.

Did anyone watch the womens final? I only caught bits of it but it looked a pretty turgid affair, at one point I think there had been 7 breaks of serve and they were only a couple of games into the second set...

Yep, most of them go this way unless one of the Williams is playing. Sad state of affairs the womens game is. I mean, just look at Safina now...

I thought the first couple of sets were excellent. Why does constant breaking of serve make bad tennis?

Clijsters started poorly but just got better and better. Na fell to pieces. Shame really, I was rooting for her.

It doesn't automatically make for poor tennis but there looked to be lots of unforced errors, maybe it was nerves or maybe something else but it's not something I expect to see in a final so much. There were also few decent rallies in the parts of the match I saw although one or two good well constructing points were in there but for most of it little guile and simply resorting to trying to hit power winners. Don't get me wrong, there's often little enough guile and too much baseline tennis in the mens game too but for some reason it seems like slightly more of a spectacle.

Well it was never going to be easy but that does make it a whole lot harder. Only been following the text commentary up to now but it sounds like there's been some pretty decent rallies already,
