Quick tyre question

No, it's no suprise at all  In what possible way was there even a hint of suprise in my post

Because it seems like you constantly mention it in every single thread about tyres that aren't Michelin, Goodyear or Continental.

any one know anywhere you can get 4 used tyre of the same make and model.. rather than calling up all local shops.. ie internet.

You can have the 4 used Pirelli P6000s off my XJ for 200 quid if you like, 235/50/18 ...plenty of life left in them, I just think they are fairly crap though and don't like them much.

If I constantly mention it that would make it even less likely that it suprises me, wouldnt it? :p

I'd hardly be suprised by something I've commented on numerous times in the past!

I think it is coincidental, from what I've Read they are great in both conditions but as you say, most people seem to love the Hankook V12, either way you can't go wrong with either of them :)

In the evo mag test the rainsports destroyed the competition in aquaplaning tests as well as holding their own against dedicated sport tyres. That's part of the reason I just bought 4 of them, that along with pretty much universal Internet praise for being an excellent all rounder. So far I can't fault them, they have a more comfy rather than sporty feel, but for me, that's what I'm after.

thanks for the offer but I need 4 x 215/40/17 or 204/45/17 :D

Don't buy used tyres, they'll have 'worn in' to the characteristics of the car they've been on.

You wouldn't wear second hand trainers..

I didn't know tyres did that - or at least if they did, that they wouldn't be 'worn out' by the time they were 'worn in'.
(Is it like buying second hand trainers belonging to Usain Bolt and finding I can run faster or something?)

An exaggerated example would be if the car they came off had a different or sub optimal set up, they might me a millimeter or so further worn on one side, so when you transplant them, you will loose the extra tread depth very rapidly, as they will shed the rubber and equalise themselves from normal road friction.

Save the best posts till last! Enjoy the new car mate, coming from your old car to the 182 you're still going to notice a big difference in handling with the cheaper tires, if you find yourself wanting more grip you can always spend a bit more next time.

Going to put them on March 1st :) I don't do that many miles so I'm hoping they will last me the best part of 15/18 months?

Maybe a bit of an odd question this, but do you guys who buy tyres yourself from Camskill etc just turn up to a garage with them and ask them to fit them?

Does it work out significantly cheaper this way? How much to fit 4 say?
