Quick tyre question

Maybe a bit of an odd question this, but do you guys who buy tyres yourself from Camskill etc just turn up to a garage with them and ask them to fit them?

Does it work out significantly cheaper this way? How much to fit 4 say?

No not usually. Normally works out literally a few quid cheaper, because you've got to pay for delivery, and then lug them along to a garage where you'll pay about £17 per corner for them fitted. I would rather just pay the extra five quid and have the tyre delivered to a garage of my choice and just have to turn up at the time i chose when i ordered them.

There seems to be this thing on the internet where everyone claims you can easily get them fitted and balanced for under £10 - which, in my experience, is utter ********. Unless of course, you want some 15 year old who is bunking from school fitting them. And even then you'll have to live in Bradford or something to get them for this price.

It can cost me anywhere between £5-£16 per corner for fitting and balancing. Depends how desperately i need them fitting!

£5 for fitting and balancing? Yeh...ok.

.

Spot on.

What? That's a reasonable price.

It sounds reasonable to me, but I've never found anywhere that charges that little. A local place wanted £15 per corner which seems absolutely ridiculous, £60 for 20 minutes of very simple work is crazy.

20 minutes to change four tyres? Where do you take your car? The Ferrari pit garage?

Not to mention they have to pay something like £1.50 for environmental disposal of the tyres. IMO, £13.50 is a decent price to change a tyre, balance it, put a new valve in it and dispose of the old tyre.
