*** 25/02/2011 EXTENSION! *** DEAL OF CENTURY: Asus GeForce GTX 480 1536MB Graphics Card with 2 FREE

Just had a thought, Fox... could you create one profile in Afterburner with a large under-clock, and select that when you're doing 2D stuff and don't want the noise? And then create a different, overclocked profile to activate when you game?

I guess it'd be a pain to have to keep selecting to switch between profiles, but it might be easier to live with than the noise.

(I'm asking as much for myself, tbh, having one of these arriving tomorrow, and trying to think what to do after reading your issues with the noise profile of the card...)

It's only an issue if you have two monitors, and even then I'm thinking he must have the pc strapped to his head for it to be that intrusive.

The loud fan noise is ridiculous - it's nothing like the 280 so I've no idea where all those graphs showing the noise as like a 280 came from. Oddly it isnt that hot at load, 79c whilst playing Crysis but with the fan set to 30 not only does it still drone but it idles at 70c.

Fan speed at a staggering 75% in Crysis compared with just 60% in the same game last night on my 280.

Really dissapointed, not sure what to do now :(

Send it back and buy a 6950 like I told you in the first place? :D

woohooo mines just arrived, driver cursing as usual lol

oh and 10 mins till its home time :)

What are those video adaptors in the picture?

Im just about to buy a mini HDMI to HDMI cable but wanted to know if it came with any cables or adaptors with the card.

69** series fans are no quieter, I've got one in my office rig. They're both pretty good.

My 6950 is inaudible at idle, and barely audible at any sort of load (bar Furmark).

My case is hardly a prime example of good cooling, either - I have one case fan at the front (intake), and the case is probably about 8 years old.

Did you really have to quote the whole post including the images?

Anyway, it's DVI to HDMI and then DVI to VGA.

Far left is two molex to 6pin and far right is SLI bridge.

That cooler has a TDP limit of 200W according to Inno3D site. The GTX480 pulls 250W at stock.

It will use upto 350Watt stock, 400 plus if you start to clock.

I think your talking about the GTX580, that has a throttling system once the card passes 270~.

Some of us looked into this a while back, and you will void the warranty if you make any modification to EU cards. Its different for some north American manufactures warranty's, but you cant claim a cross RMA.

How can they tell if people have replaced the stock cooler if it's sent back with the original?

I'm finding my 6970 and 480 to be very similar. I was expecting 50c idle and 95c load temps after reading reviews and ended up with 37c and 85c overclocked just the same as my Amd card.

farcry 2 was hidden in the box inbetween the 2 boxes not with the graphics cards accessories itsself. very happy with this card i highly recommend it it performances about the same as what my 6950 did

On the subject of Farcry 2, is anyone that already owns it going to be sticking theirs in MM? I'd like to play it, and see a great opportunity to pick a copy up cheap :)

thermal paste. and you have to remove or move the form to get at the last 3 screws which hold the heatsink on

Some thermal paste will still be on the stock cooler, which could simply be pushed back on to the card as it was. That is of course unless all the paste somehow sticks to the GPU, in which case couldn't it be stored and reapplied?

What do you mean by "form" and why is it an issue? I've not touched any new gear in 2.5 years so I might be a bit behind the times.

Sorry, just wanted to make sure people knew what i was talking about.

That sounds excellent, might save me buying a new cable.

Does the two molex to 6 pin go into the motherboard or a PSU cable and power the card?

I am right in saying even though the card has 3 outputs, only two monitors can be supported by a Nvidia card?
