Gah, no, not into the idea of voiding warranty on a £200 card plus £40cooler! ;)

Yeah I suggested that earlier, it does solve the high idle clock problem.

Cool. Would this be okay for playing HD video from my HDD?

Oh, and I presume sticking another nvidia card in my second PCI-E slot is going to be okay even though my mobo doesn't support SLI ('cause of course it's not SLI, is it?). Ok on an IP35-Pro?

right after reading this thread practicaly all night - decided finally - to order (just about to do it) the FOZR 470 - if I can get it to near 480 performance and it still be relatively quiet - then jobs a good un IMO

if the MSI cards overclock (no garrentee) BUT they should they have unlocked voltage shouldnt be a problem easy 10-20% increase do not underestimate the fozr coolers they are awesome

To be honest watching a video on sound just dont work as it would in real life at 100% fan this 480 does not sound as loud as it does in that video, of course I could always turn my head phones down and pretend those videos were close too silent.
at 100% yes the fan is fairly loud to be honest not seen anything thats made mine hit anywhere near 100% yet although not done too much testing yet but run Heaven a few times and 3dmark as well.

I think it would be great to get an answer on whether a custom cooler voids the warranty.

Someone mentioned earlier in the thread that it is easy to determine whether you've had the cooler off or not, and that it does in fact void the warranty in the EU.

I can't understand why you're still messing about with this and even entertaining the idea of a £40 cooler. Send your 480 back and buy the right card ;)

Well I have to say I'm over the mine with my 480. Tweaking the custom fan settings on afterburner has helped keep the temps down a bit, can run heaven and 3D Mark 11 and don't get any higher than about 80C now. I've upped the core clock to 780 for now (shader clock 1560) and even managed to reduce the volts a bit from what it started at, now got it set at 1.063V and seems to be happy. No doubt could push it further but I'm happy at the mo. 3D Mark 11 score is 5653 at the basic 1280x720 res, not really sure whether that's any good? Gotta say the fan doesn't bother me at all :)

Yes, but you know what they say... you can also OC the 480 to the point where even an OC'd 470 won't reach it :)

your correct, but like others have pointed out, it will cost you abit more with cooling or you have to put up with abit more fan noise

Got my core clock at 800 shader 1600 hit temp high of 84 (pretty sure this is still a really safe temp) have not messed at all with the volts. Dont feel the need to really push the card any futher even at the default speeds I am not sure I run anything that this card will not run at a frame rate that I could tell the difference other than using a benchmark or frame rate carrier.

At an overclocked speed you can certainly hear the fans but again once gaming with headphones the noice is not noticeable. Love the card for the price and a good service by overlockers getting the card here a day earlier restores some faith in the company for me at least and will be shopping with them again.

thats what i almost did, ive got my 480gtx pretty much silent now at idle :D

Min idle temp is 41 and max 51, load hasnt gone above 71c so im pretty chuffed tbh, i almost cried when i first plugged it in

Work on the fan profile and you can get a good balance between fan noise and lower temps even when overclocked.

I backed my overclock down to 800Mhz, really no need to be any higher as it flys at 800. Yeah 84c is fine.

Looks like it should be fine.

Right that's my nights work done, core voltage at 1.063V, core clock at 800Mhz, 3D Mark 11 score 5723 (any good?). Temps no higher than 80C during 3D Mark 11, all in all I'm happy with that :)

Maybe I spoke to soon, idle is perfect, ive just launched metro 2033 and all hell broke loose :(

The game ran the best ive ever seen (coming from 460) but i cant live with that noise.

Shame really as its a great card otherwise

Score seems about right, can you not get the voltage any lower, I can do 800Mhz at 1.025mV

My card has arrived but is unopened, waiting for my new PSU. Just waiting for afew replies on here seeing if its worth sending it back.

But i am really tight, probs wont just cause its going to cost me £5...
