i am hoping GPU-Z is reporting these temps wrong.

On max temp it says 123 degrees

It shows two gpu temp sections though.

Afterburner has it at the high 60's .

Could gpu-z be wrong?

I dont understand why your fan is below 1000rpm at 30% fan and mine isnt?

If mine had the fan speeds that some of you guys did I'd probably not be nearly as annoyed with it.

How do I get my fan do do 772rpm?

I am not sure how it was that low either Fox.

I have checked and it is now 1542rpm

I'm running two displays. I was idling at 44% and 1950rpm. Now for some reason after I restarted it's gone down to 39% and 1710rpm. Temps are now 70C at idle, but I don't think that's a problem - and my old 4870 had idle temps in the mid-to-high-60sC as well.

everyone with lower fan speeds seem to be on older drivers.

Surly that cant affect fan speeds?

I am on 266 and at 44% get about 2300rpm which is not great at idle.

I thought the same thing. Never heard of driver affecting fan speed, but I'm definitely not updating my drivers until I figure out what's up with this!

I'm really liking the fact that this card is so overclockable on stock volts, but quickly goes back to being inaudible when idle.

Are you planning to try installing 260.99s to see if you get any change in fan speeds?

yeah just gonna do it now

There is a tool called MSI Afterburner Max Voltage Unlocker (though I'm having trouble locating a copy right now).

I tried it with my GTX460, and it did open up the voltage slider a lot. I never got around to actually trying higher voltages than 1.087, though, because my 480 arrived :)

How to I get higher voltage options than 1.138v in Afterburner does anybody know?

NiBiTor BIOS editor or Max Voltage Unlocker, max voltage without hardware modding is around 1.4V, anyway why would you like to use so much vcore? 1Ghz on the core is not possible even on high end watercooling, I'm topping out at 958Mhz 1.125V

I think these 480's must not all come with the same fans, Its only reason I can think of for the difference in speeds

1618 @ 30%
2333 @ 44%
5138 @ 100%

My speeds using 260.99 drivers

more than happy with my card though, and will be keeping it, cooler seems very effective tbh, lower temps than my 280gtx

850 appears to be my limit with Afterburner set at 1138mv, although GPU-z says the gpu is only pulling 1090 under load with Afterburner set at that.....

Hmm... yeah, I'm using the same drivers, and you're right, I'm getting very different fan speeds by percentage load:

1230@30%
1950@44%

Currently idling at 1710 @ 39% (albeit with 70C temps with two monitors attached).

At least if that's the case then I can think about updating my drivers without it screwing up my idle fan noise levels...
