*** 25/02/2011 EXTENSION! *** DEAL OF CENTURY: Asus GeForce GTX 480 1536MB Graphics Card with 2 FREE

Is it possible to overclock these to 580 performance?
To quote myself from just a few posts up...
I love my 480 :D
It is idling at 38/39 degrees (34% fan speed ~1780RPM)
Clocks are as follows (i'm still in the process of OCing):
Core: 821MHz
Shader: 1642MHz
Memory: 1882MHz
Custom fan settings.

When playong MW2 (max settigns) max temp got 73 degrees and max GPU usage got to 97, i find the GPU usage surprisingly high?

Does anyone know if it's possible to change the default fan profiles for these cards? I have msi afterburner to turn the fan down to 30% when idle, but i'd like to have it start at 30% when booting up rather than the default 44%.

What are you using which gets the temps up to 97c?

Hows the airflow in your case?

Also, 97c is ok ish thats where i would start to worry a bit really, mine on full load goes to 80c maybe 83c but thats it.

I have no idea where you got that from? I said

Oh and i'm using a HAF 932 so great airflow and it's right under a window which is usually open.

New idle temp of 35C at a fan speed of 34% :D:D:D
The more i over clock it the more the temps seem to drop haha.

Haha! so in reply to the original post, your GPu is fine :D

Haha i suppose, i just found it odd that MW2 pretty much put it under full load.

Do these have volt control on them and is there much OC room left.

Yerp, with afterburner it can be unlocked in settings and with the software that comes with the 480 (ASUS Smartdoctor) it doesn't need unlocking.

I have just ordered one too.
After seeing Amigarver's results on water I just could not help myself.
My 9800GX2 has worked flawlessly for nearly 3 years so its off for retirement.

Installed this in my mates PC last night and it's outperforming the MSi 460 Cyclone quite nicely. Overclocked it to 850/1700/3700 on 1.138V, can it go further though?

I've had mine running Furmark at 875/1750 with 1.1V, no problem. 900/1800 with 1.138 locked the system up, sadly. Possibly needs more volts?

This is with the Zalman VF3000 cooler. Temps while running Furmark @ 875 were about 82 degrees. I think my case fans are struggling to get rid of so much hot air from the cooler.

Cheers Ricko, his is just the stock ASUS card. I'll try 875/1750, just checked some reviews and benches and it seems that the memory clock won't budge from 3700.

Yeah, that's what I have found. Memory doesn't seem to like overclocking at all, so I've left it at stock for the time being.

Whats the best people have had from this card with the stock cooler now? I have mine at 835/1670 stock voltage using Afterburner not tried above this so far but it seems rock stable. Not really know much about voltage tweeking so left it well alone. Dont know too start saving for an SSD drive for my next upgrade or a custom cooler for the 965BE I have a feeling that an SSD drive would be best so might get a 100 gig one in a couple of months time after everyone around heres bloody birthdays done and gone

Any chance you could tell me what voltage gpuz is reporting with a 3d app running at those settings?

If I set 1138mv in afterburner gpuz reckons my gpu only takes 1080mv under load.

835MHz is very good for stock volts. The most I can get out of mine is 875MHz, but that requires 1.15v to run completely stably in a well cooled case.

An SSD will provide a far better upgrade than a custom cooler.
