Worried about your expensive phones?

Do people have a quick look around before taking they're phone out to use in some public places? I just ask as... some of the the smart phones out these days are seriously expensive. I personally know one or two people (not proud of it) who wouldn't think twice about knocking you out (and have done) just for a nice phone. Suppose the same think goes for quality watches and the like but phones are an easier touch I'd say.

I'm not a big mobile user (I use a Samsung E1080 so not to worried) but wouldn't walk about town talking away on an iPhone 4 or similar like the world was a crime free place where people wouldn't think of such a thing. Maybe I just live in a dodgy area?

I sometimes have a look to check there aren't a group of unsavoury looking fellows stood near me if I get my phone out, it depends where I am. I haven't heard of it happening in my area though, but it probably does.

I suppose you can apply a similar logic to people who would knock you out and take your car keys, I'd be a bit more concerned about that than my phone.

Sounds like you know some nice people.

Definitely not paranoid. I've just seen it all to often. Easy money for scumbags to make. My younger sister was after an iPhone for xmas and was told to do one as she'd have had it a week before coming home from school in tears.

1) There are a LOT more smartphones around these days, they're not a rare luxury comodotiy anymore. I cant say i've heard of anyone being mugged just for a phone for about 6 years!

2) I'm a reasonably sized bloke so not an "easy" target

3) Who cares anyway, it's insured, it has a remote block app on it....ill just pay my 30 quid excess and get a new one

i think im the opposite. i get annoyed when people buy cases and screen protectors in fear of them getting scratched, it's just a phone fgs. one of my friends has a flip case on his desire HD, makes it twice as big!

oh and people that buy a cheap nokia for going out and leave their iphone at home, sigh:(

I'm 6'4", 210lbs, try and knock my phone out MY hands, and I'll knock YOU into next week! :D

haha.

LOL.

But yeah, stuff like this still happens despite the fact that phones become next to useless when they are blacklisted.

There is an element of jealousy involved when thugs try to take your phone away. My Beloved Nokia 6230 was mugged off me, not violently but I was still annoyed. A week later my bike was stolen then 2 weeks later my other bike was stolen.

Suffice to say I'm more vigilant than others.

Or you've lived a horrible one?
Made me laugh :p

I think that's probably a little naive. They're certainly not rare, but for those so inclined, it's still an easy couple of hundred quid to make on ebay, surely. For that reason if i'm walking around at night I certainly pay attention to who's around - whereever you are you probably should anyway. e.g. I'd never walk around at night with headphones on - that's just asking for trouble. Mind you i currently work nights in the middle of soho so there's definitely plenty of unsavoury characters around!

My phones insured, locked and has remote alarm/lock/tracking on it. I'm always keeping an eye on more options for 'safety', god bless android!

My phone is insured and I'll run with a pin on the lock screen so if they want it they can have it.

I'd just go home and log in to the windows thing and block the phone and get an insurance replacement.

Never consider it. But then i'm not exactly small (got 70lb on the above) so not a prime target.. though if they get it out of my hands there no way im gonna catch them!
