*** 2nd March - Apple Event - Official Thread ***

so how come the ipad 2 is available from 11th March in the US but over here its 25th?

Apple are an American company and have given priority to the US. About as simple as that.

US demand might see the 25th date be pushed back, it wouldn't be a huge surprise.

I have a friend going to Vegas this week for 7 days anyone know if I would have any problems If I got him to pick me up a 3G Ipad2?

I can't see Apple bowing to the pressure created by Adobe. They'll push web developers to abandon flash in favour of HTML5 before they go back on their word.

Flash on OS X is horrendous in comparison to Windows, hence the comments that flash performance is dog slow. I've seen fans on my Mac Pro spin up because of an annoying flash advert.

iTunes on windows is crap what's your point exactly?

You get the rough with the good when you make a choice of operating system.

Also flash is not slow or crap or a battery hog on android.

I think if you have a half decent machine these days it should be alright. On my old laptop it would do weird stuff like take 15mins to start up when I plugged the phone in, make my system crawl but it was a rather ancient machine.

That's the Golden Master, not the official release (although I realise it's more or less the same thing) of 4.3. I've already updated iTunes to the 4.3 friendly version.

I've never understood this sort of remark, I have never noticed an issue with iTunes on Windows, it has always worked fine for me.

I think its largely down to people not knowing how to use it properly more than anything else.

I disagree. I've got two iPhones and a 1st gen Apple TV. iTunes seems to get very confused on a regular basis when syncing and locks up. It becomes completely unusable until I unplug one of my iPhones. Sometimes even unplugging doesn't resolve the problem.

iTunes on Windows also regularly won't accept artwork for videos I've ripped using Handbrake either. Under OSX, it all works fine.

And that's before you get onto the difference in performance between the OSX and Windows versions. The Windows version is noticeably slower.

It isn't a well-written application on Windows. It works smoothly enough on my quad-core 3.2Ghz system with 4GB memory, but lags like hell on my dual-core 1.66Ghz laptop with 2GB of RAM. That should be a perfectly adequate spec for iTunes. You shouldn't need an 'enthusiast' system to get decent performance on what is, after all, a media player with syncing capability.

The 'cover flow' feature is especially bad. I've seen it eat 1GB of RAM before.
