Original Cozzie

As we have already established - there weren't any. None that were as good. If you are talking about things like the Pulsar, Impreza, R32/33 GTR and so on, they weren't "of the day".

Read back, I listed a number of cars with better looks, higher/lower (comparable) performance, and better reliability and running costs.

why does it rave about the £16,000 price tag yet not mention the insurance for a lot of people would surpass that figure

You have to remember that insurance wasn't crazy for these cars at their introduction. It was the succeeding years during which period I think cossies became the most stolen cars in Britain.

Fair enough you prefer Jap cars, each to their own. But then in the same vein, sure you must conceed/understand that for other people, these cars represented (for the average working man atleast) almost godly status on the roads.

Well, except the M3 or M5 which he mentioned but both were hugely more expensive.
Yeah I was referring to the Japanese stuff really.
The M3 was a good car although in contemporary tests it often lost out the Sierra. Being LHD only had a big part to play in that along with the cost.

So a car mag says it was the best at that time, ill treat that with the same credibility I do top gear lap times, why is 150mph important when the NSL at the time was the same as it is now and track days were unheard of at that time? why does it rave about the £16,000 price tag yet not mention the insurance for a lot of people would surpass that figure?

I think ill stick idolizing the better looking, better performing, cheaper to run and more reliable Jap cars of the day...

I'll admit I'm possibly being a bit slow here but what does it matter if the performance of the Japanese cars you mention is better (arguable perhaps but we'll go with it as a premise) given you've just pointed out that the speed limit remains the same? Surely the performance is unimportant for all or is it just unimportant except when it's in a car you like?

As for the original advert there - can't say I would want one now much but damn if it still doesn't look like a seriously purposeful car.

Gorgeous race prepped Cozzie I found browsing RSOC.

Falls sweet for me as the Central show is on April 10th at Santa Pod literally weeks away.

k, ill go with the Mitsubishi Starion (up to 197hp unleaded, 225hp leaded), the Nissan 300ZX MK1 (205hp), the Toyota Supra MK3 (230-276hp). I'd also like to point out the BMW M3 with 195-238hp. It should also be pointed out that due to the size of the Sierra it oculd be compared to the M5 which was even more powerful.

Whilst these are all excellent cars. Even the 300ZX was made 4 years later than the Cossie. And the M3 was massively more expensive so wasnt a real competitor. The MKIII supra whilst immense for drift wouldnt be able to touch a cossie in a straight line and importing such a car would make it a lot more expensive still.

So whilst comparible a lot of those cars are newer and/or more expensive!

Mk1 Subaru Legacy RS would be a contender that is of the same era as the Cossie and doesn't look chavvy. It looks like an old Rover!

That said, I'd still love a Cossie or one of the 80s RS Fords. Love that look, chavvy or not. dont think they're even chavvy any more as the modern chav cars aren't copying that look any more, with the obvious exception of the occasional 6R4 replica on Barryboys.

1989! 4 years late to the party. Come on Jap fans, this is like shooting fish in a barrel.

I meant the 1983-1989 300ZX turbo (Z31) not the 1989-2000 300ZX Twin Turbo (Z32), I cannot find any examples of drag races but the Supra and Sierra are both RWD cars and the Supra has more power/torque per tonne so it should be able to more than touch it in a straight line...

I thought Sierra Cosworths were around in some form until 1993/K?

Edit: R31 Skyline GTS-R, 210bhp in road trim, 430bhp in race trim 1985-1989

The Sierra cossie was made from 86-92 but I think Lopez is only including cars that were also released in 1986 or something, I listed cars made in the same era that had better performance/handling/reliability than it and he just dismissed them because he didn't agree :P

Because either they weren't actually available when the Sierra was or they are simply not in the same class. If the M3 cost the same as the Sierra back then, there'd be an awful lot more of them around now.
