20kg for a 4ft? Try double that at least. I have 35 in my 200l which is less than 3ft.

. I've got one plant left because it's prickly so they can't get onto it, so going to have to fill the rest of the space with plastics.

The tank has been running for a fair while - just haven't posted it! Got it several months ago, and have had the rasbora's in there with no issues for about 2 months now.

Thanks for the article, I'll up my water changes - maybe do a 10-15% every day. If that doesn't help I'll have to buy something to quaratine him in - I unfortunately only have one heater / tank.

Hah, the plants are newer than the golden apple.. I haven't seen him on them / see any signs of him eating them - yet!

By the way, how do you keep your filter suction hose thing clean? I've been trying to clean it with cotton buds, but I just can't reach the whole think.

Yeah keeping the filter hose clean is pretty hard. I just usually use my finger and a blast of water. Impossible to get it completely spotless though.

I've had my Fluval Edge for just under 2 years now and unfortunately the lighting system has gone (I've tried new bulbs, and nothing, and you can't get into the DC adapter to check the fuse

). I just went to the local aquarium shop to get some plastic plants (damn snails!) and a few other bits and the cost of a new light setup with 3 spots would be about £36. And at that cost I'm tempted to just make the upgrade to a larger tank with better accessibility.

Saw the Superfish Aqua 60 Black which is quite nice and cheap (~£54 online). Any other recommendations?

Be warned on the small tanks - have to keep on top of your water changes (like, a pint a day/twice a day) as the chemical nasties (nitrates/nitrites) can spike really easily and make the fish ill.

Those Fluval Edge tanks - I can't see the water line - do they allow enough oxygen exchange with the air?

The filter 'waterfall' drops from a fair height (~1" when full with water) so that gets a decent amount of oxygen in.

I like to leave a small gap at the top of the tank, as betta's like to breathe from the surface.

I've done another water change today, and my betta's mood seems to have picked up a bit - in that he's swimming around more!

Hope I start seeing some tail regrowth soon

Got my lighting system replaced by Hagen as it was still within its 2 year warranty (just!). Only a four-day turnaround so pretty pleased. Will post a couple of pics soon.

Went to Plymouth Aquarium this weekend which just made me want a salt water aquarium (and a bigger tank).

My much neglected tank, not much has been done with this for the last 2 maybe 3 years other than adding 6 algae eating shrimps. Two t5 lights, no co2, 80% water change once a month and some plant trimming. Fish feed twice a week if that and nothing else added.

Thick substrate.
Suckers on the floor under substrate tied to plant via thin fishing line
Small strip metal weights
Secure plants to other items (bogwood/decor/etc)

Also make sure you remove the spongy bit, as it contains a load of nutrients/additives that can cause an algea bloom in the tank!

Can anyone give me info on the filter in this set-up? It's very Bioshock-esque and I likeee lots. Does it come with the tank or is it a seperate purchase?

I just got my son a few goldfish and I'm pretty much hooked on the idea of getting a marine tank for myself. Love the pics and they're giving me more than a few, rather expensive, ideas.

can't wait till I move into my own flat. I'd love a fish tank but the noise puts me off having one in my bedroom and the lack of space (and parents getting rid of the one in the lounge) means it won't happen anytime soon.

Those lead/metal weights tend to damage plants, best bet is to anchor them to bogwood using some thin thread or catgut or pile substrate around

External canister filters with a spray bar are virtually silent - the only time mine makes a noise is if the flow from spraybar disturbs water.

I can't believe I used to sleep with 3x air pumps for my tanks going 24/7. But then again I used to sleep fine when my first home made PC had a crazy noisy 92mm delta fan.

Some lovely tanks on display! Great to see!

Good filters aren't that noisy (if at all) and if you've got hardy fish then you can turn the filter off during sleeping hours, which is what I do as my tank is right next to my bed.
