Anyone else hate eating at restaurants?

Sounds like you've got social problems from reading some of those.

Going out to a restaurant is more about socializing and enjoying yourself or celebrating occasions than actually eating the food.

I suppose there aren't many other ways to celebrate with a bunch people, even Jesus did it with his last supper. I just don't enjoy like everyone else.

If I want to spend time with one person I'd rather go for a drive or a long walk, or even go fishing instead of sitting in a big room eating.

Eating out is a big deal in the US I know lots of people who eat out once a week. I think it's almost a status symbol. Once a week at $50-100 (more if they have kids) x 52 weeks, that's thousands of $ a year literally flushed down the toilet.

You sound almost believably sane from this alone but you first post clearly has some major flaws. If you had said this the first time instead of some of the things you mentioned you wouldn't be getting this flack.

Especially the bit where you said you don't like watching people eat, like you are forced to or have no control over what you look at, then saying food is over-rated in a non chalent way as if we don't need food and other people don't enjoy different tastes. Then not liking tipping, again under this odd assumption that you must tip?

Post stupid, expect stupid.

I assume you don't drink anything but water either?

Food is over-rated. I'd rather have a banana and spinach smoothie or grill a plain steak on my back deck than spend $50 on some over seasoned twoddle so I can pretend to be sophisticated. It's nutrition not entertainment.

Why are people insulting kwerk and saying he's a troll for saying he doesn't see the point in restaurants? Is he posting on the restaurantowners.co.uk forums, or is eating out an unquestioned ideology that forms the base of modern society?

Some spineless posters here really do take any opportunity to get their cheap shots in when they see a reputed "troll" making a thread, regardless of what the post actually contains.

Have you even read what he's written in this thread alone? You cant honestly see why people dislike him?

Oh dear.

I completely agree. I love eating your steak on your back deck. I don't even think you've realised I've been stealing your steaks! :D

I am not the biggest fan of eating out, I would prefer to get drunk at home or go to a disco/club.

But it is about friends really and you can still get drunk, and also you gotta eat I suppose.

Infact that's the problem, I find eating a waste of time. haha.

How do you know he doesn't enjoy socialising elsewhere? like, in a pub, or coffee shop.

He said he doesn't like it when it's too crowded or when people watch him eat, ignoring the fact that no one would be watching you eat, it sounds to me like someone who would also avoid the pub/coffee shop for the same reasons.

I agree with a few points, especially the one about people watching you eat

people always stare at me while i'm eating, probably because i'm so handsome but it does get annoying after a while, one time i flicked a pea across towards this woman who couldn't keep her eyes off me, think it landed in her drink..it was a quality shot

I have grown to enjoy it, in fact I think it's absolutely excellent and it is probably a definite highlight, good food, good people, drink, conversation - definitely better than being in a club like others have said.
I used to think the same way as OP, round about when I was 15. Apart from the food brothel bit, that's slightly too far fetched for my 15 yr old brain.

Since we're all making ridiculous assumptions, is OP
a) anorexic
b) a person involved in, and with, abstract, erudite ideas and theories
c) consider anything that overwhelms the senses a form of degradation?

I was going to be more polite, but what the **** are you talking about?

Does anyone else think eating at restaurants is over-rated? I don't know anyone who doesn't love it. I hate having to pretend I'm enjoying myself when I'm obliged to go out to eat.

  • I don't like strangers watching me eat.
  • I don't like watching strangers eat, especially fat ones.
  • Food is over-rated, I mostly want to fill my belly I don't really care what it tastes like as long as it's healthy. I don't like the idea of eating for entertainment.
  • I don't like spending a lot of money on something that I'm just going to poop out.
  • I don't like having to tip people just for doing their job.
  • They usually give you too much food and it gets wasted.
  • It's usually too loud, too dark, or too crowded.

Oh yeah and here everything is horribly over-seasoned and over salted to appease these diabetic land whale's diminished sense of taste from years of masturbatory gustation.
Restaurants are basically brothells where they **** off your taste buds. I want no part of it.
Sees eating as a private activity, doesn't like paying more for food that tastes marginally better, doesn't like tipping waiters, various other middling opinions...

Yeah, no wonder people 'hate'* him.

*Hate, really...

Haha, can't you read or something?

You must be one of these people terrified of having an opinion. Put your swear words away and calm down. :)

Oh and I didn't know dislike = hate.

This really. I wouldn't turn down an invite, but i'd rather have a home-cooked steak for example, or even an Indian meal delivered - then go out somewhere afterwards.

or even better, a bbq!

Why do you associate eating food with going out?

You and kwerk should go out for a meal together.
