***** The Crysis 2 Thread *****

Got to say i enjoyed it more than any recent COD game. But was thoroughly underwhealmed by the whole thing, did not in anyway feel like a worthy succesor to crysis or warhead.

yes and i feel a bit sorry for you lot, because you can tell from the posts that this game is a big dissapointment, MAYBE THE BEST ADVICE IS, dont buy a FPS strait away, wait till the reviews:cool:

it's the sense of huge letdown due to eager anticipation that hurts quite a lot, i was also very dissapointed when FEAR 2 came out, i sulked for ages; especially when i was looking forward to it for 2 years :(

Dumbed down for consoles?

No, this game is too linear and simplistic, it's a spray and prey shooter...the developers got the basic formula wrong right from the word go!!

because the clue to a successful Crysis 2, is definitely the first FAR CRY.... this game should have been an updated variant on FAR CRY, because this is what crysis is good at.... beautiful tropical island maps.

And this is why you cant please everyone. One of the major complaints about crysis1 (apart from the sys reqs) was that it was 'far cry with a power suit' because they used the same setting. Moving away from that setting was a good move and meant they could try something different - a city with large amounts of detail was always going to be harder to pull off than some sun, trees and repeated foiliage - but it seems no matter what setting they chose, it was always going to be 'insert popular fps with a power suit' because every setting (thats worth doing) has been done to death. A high profile shooter is always going to attract a lot of criticism (so much unwarranted before it even came out).

I thought it was a very good shooter, best in terms of graphics and the game itself thats come out in a few years. Plays flawlessly on my pc (although thats a bad thing right? we need it to be so unoptimised that only the 1337 >£2000 pc people can play it and then we can argue the opposite way around that it runs crap on low harware...)

As soon as they mentioned it was coming out on consoles at the same time and the PCs wasnt highest priority, the game became the anti-christ to most, condemning ir before they even saw it, a lot are doing it still without even playing it. A few pictures of bad textures ('look this texture in the corner of this brown room doesnt look good' and 'the texture in the corner of this sewage pipe is crap' - compared to a lot more pictures of a very good looking game) and some multiplayer issues (all fixed for me, no cheaters and gear is saving - fun times) and its the worst game in years. Fair enough if you dont like it but some of the exaggerations coming from nowhere are a bit odd to say the least.

yes i understand your post, but you dont read many that praise the game like you do, most people are genuinely dissappointed:cool:

Actually quite a few have posted that they like the game. the problem is the people who dont like the game post multiple times about the same things. Quite a few who havnt even touched the game post about how they think it 'sounds' crap etc. There are maybe 20-25 people who have posted their opinions about the game here, I find it hard to believe that only that many people have played the game on this forum, unfortunatly like every forum the main prupose is problem solving for a lot so the majority of what you see is people asking for help or to air grievances, the amount of people complaining compared to the amount the game has sold is barely anything, factoring in the biggest problems posted on the website have now been fixed. What a lot of people are complaining about are either small little things (i.e. some textures, or the fact its on consoles aswell, or that it didnt push boundries in every concievable way). I admit it has its flaws and some people genuinly wont like it (cant please everyone) but some people posting repeatedly about the same stuff over and over is making it seem like a majority opinion.

As always people mostly use forums to complain, which gives a false impression and skews perceptions. I've just finished C2 campaign for the second time and i'm definately going for a third playthrough soon. This is the best FPS i've played in a long time and certainly better than all the generic CoD style games that have been around the last few years.

Only started to play it yesterday and i have to say i'm not overly impressed.

Although this could be because i never played the original Crysis or Warhead until last week so i was expecting something "better" (i liked the demo, but playing the original games has spoiled me).

What don't i like?
  • The suit interface, why did they have to move the options?
  • A visor that can see through things and tell you where the ammo is?
  • They've changed the suit abilities, you can now stealth, sprint and power jump at the same time, shouldn't the game at least be a bit challenging?
  • Why can i only carry 2 spare magazines for the guns i've got? I used to be able to carry hundreds of rounds, now i can carry 80, progress?
  • Nano-vision, is this to make up for the muted palate that makes the bad guys blend into the background until you walk into them?
  • Nano-points? wtf? your suit has all these amazing abilities which would be useful in the field, but they're disabled until you kill enough bad guys?

And that's just after playing for a couple hours. It feels VERY dumbed down, doesn't have anything like the edge of the first games. C1 & C:WH, you make too much noise and all hell rains down on you, in C2 you just run and hide in a corner for a while with your extra long life cloak.

I'm only playing through to see what actually happens now.

I still have the FPS drop issue after 5 or so minutes of gameplay online, it's getting really annoying. My brother can run it fine, and he has two 5850's but has to disable crossfire so the flickering doesn't occur, and he also doesn't get the random FPS drops that i get, and i'm running a 5870 & a 5970 in my system, so i reckon it's the 5970 causing the problem.

I'm going to take it out of my motherboard this afternoon after work, and see if that solves it.

Have you tried Radeon Pro with the Bioshock profile?

I prefer FPS games with a Gamepad but much prefer playing on the Pc...

Shoot me down I don't care..

I don't get this cult thing. I really don't with the attitude from some others. All I see at times is some people trying to create a dictatorship because things don't go their way. Look at the behavior of, BaDBoY_uK. He can't talk rationally and acts like the little boy throwing toys out of the pram.

I loved crysis 2, the game is focused, fun to play, and gives a consistent frame rate.

The amusing part is how serious some people are. They go on like it's the end of the world.

I miss the rather epic battles against the big exosuits from crysis and warhead.
2 could do with a few of these to make it more of a challenge.

I though the suit layout was better in Crysis 2 tbh, i much prefer it. Strength and speed being the same thing makes more sense to me, and having them on as default does as well.
I do think that sometimes it is too easy to stealth through areas with cloak on, but it is just another way to play it, you don#t have to, so it is kid of a good thing for players who want to play it that way.

Erm, just don't use it maybe?

any smart person will read every post and look for information from multiple sources not just one forum, and people are voicing their concerns and not just on this forum.
A lot of the people who are whole heartedly content with crysis 2 (and there are quite a few)didn't play the first or just didn't like the setting.
the fact is crysis 2 could have been so much more than just another corridor shooter with some arenas that give the fake impression of non liner game play.
the those still saying it isn't a port are saying this because the really enjoyed the game and hey im not knocking you for that but you have to look at the facts.
.closed environments so the game runs well on consoles while still looking good(reviewers still note some frame rate issues in some parts)
.nerfed physics
.nerfed controls(there was nothing wrong with the suit wheel in the first)
.nerfed settings
.lots of hand holding
.the mp demo.....
somebody said earlier that all the settings worth doing are already done to death, the middle east isn't the only place worth doing...
and its not the setting that is annoying people its the way it was tackled
the city that they chose could have been a really nice sandbox (think gta 4)
nobody is saying its a awful game but its a step back from the original in my opinion, for me its like seeing a nice girl from afar in the a club only to walk up to her and see she has a butter face.
i dont think ill be playing the sp again and i havent touched the multi as i prefer larger skirmishes, i dont fully regret my purchase of crysis 2 but thats only because of my anticipation of user generated content that is sure to come if crytek decide to release sandbox 3,the community for the first game pulled out some awesome stuff.

I don't get how people prefer the manual wheel to the automated system, it's so much more fluid now

more limited ammo gives a more reasonable amount and all the guns minus the grendel have pretty reasonable max ammo counts
