Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

Just flashed MIUI have to say this thing is great really loving it for the time being. Runs so smooth like just crazy fast, has so many kewl features. Gonna install all my apps now and play around with it. But if you havnt tried it already you really should. Didnt take long to install as well.

I hear the battery drain is pretty bad. Medium to heavy usage I can get 2 days on Darky's, light usage I've managed 5 days. MIUI medium/heavy usage doesn't meet a day's usage according to many on XDA. Can you confirm?

Nooooooo

not sure which posts have left you with a bad impression but SGS > Desire all day long honestly

I agree with this. The only downsides to the SGS perhaps are that it looks a little like an iPhone 3G, it doesn't feel as solid and the GPS isn't great on many setups. I would buy it again out of the current choice of handsets though. Nothing better except perhaps the Nexus S and upcoming SGS II.

Had it installed for about 2 weeks now , battery drain is pretty bad TBH , but the ROM is super smooth and good. Suppose its a trade off....

I understand it's something that might be fixed by CM7 or MIUI, so you may be able to get the best of both worlds, just hope that development continues at a decent pace.

After coming home rom university, at around 10pm I had around 10% battery left so it does drain fast, but I had really heavy use today since I was playing around with it a lot. Restored all my apps today, showing it off to all my friends. But I have to say its a great rom, and I even convinced my friend to switch to it xD.

What ROM did you come from

I was on a 2.3.3 rom, but I just flashed 2.2.1 rom (JPU) and then just followed the steps, it was really simple.

Well i have been running jvk for several days now and its bloody great.
Even gps locks on within seconds and is much better.
Fast too. much faster than the latest 2.2.1 roms.

thumbs up from me

Hmmm, I wondered about trying that one when I was about to flash JS7 on Sunday, but I was concerned that it might be a bit too 'bleeding edge' and buggy ... really having to fight the urge now :D

Anything about it that doesn't quite work as it should?

It all works which is good.

im not considering changing it anytime soon

i didcinstall supercurios ext4 though too

Excellent - with the weekend coming up, I'm very, very tempted ... must resist ... must ... resist ... :p

I wouldnt resist at all. It is definately worth the jump, even over all these so called custom ROM's which to be quite realistic about it are probably worse. Samsung have really got it together with the Galaxy S since it first came out.

I can let you have the files i used if you want. Flashed the ROM and Kernel with Odin.

I've tried uploading it but its massive and it just gets rejected at my usual haunts.
Here is a good link on XDA forums.

No probs - thanks for trying Brummie.

Just had a quick look on samfirmware and it appears as though they possibly have the same file as referenced in the XDA post.

I'll have a proper read of the XDA thread and might try it sometime in the next few days ... don't like the sound of the alarms being cancelled if you use Task Manager though - I use the alarm quite a lot on mine!

I'm running jvk at the mo, its amazingly smooth. I had darky 9.5 previously and its a pretty big improvement. I would whole heartedly recommend it.

I have 0 problems with mine apart from a very occasional battery drain issue, where android os gets very hungry and had previously drained 60% over night while idle. This happens rarely though, but the battery life generally is incredible, easy beyer than any other roms I've tried.

Good luck with the flash, its very easy :)

Don't go samfirmware. use the links in that post only

I cooked a ROM in the ROM Kitchen yesterday, have used it on 3 different SGS so far and I have to say it's fast as lightning on all of them. Faster than Darky's 9.5! JS8 base, JPY modem (GPS is fast to lock), speedmod k13d 500Hz kernel (no tweaks or lagfix on). No bugs at all so far, dead stable. The only drawback is the choice of themes don't have any good previews. I used the Docrom v4 theme but I did prefer the Darky's style.

Only oddity I noticed was that from the stock JPY kernel to speedmod (and voodoo), the screen looks very blue. Any reason why? I think speedmod has an option to alter that, suprised it's so different from one kernel to another. I compared JPY, speedmod and voodoo all side by side and only the first had realistic colours, the other too have too much contrast and blue! Any tips?
