I'd take VDS giving us 1 more year over anyone though tbh

Thing is from what I've seen De Gea is already better than VDS so it makes sense to bring him in now rather than waiting and probably having to pay VDS a fortune in wages.

Not great comments coming from De Gea today, seems like if he leaves Atletico it will be more by the clubs doing than anything he pushes for. If he's that reluctant to leave Madrid then we shouldn't be going anywhere near him imo

Likewise Van der Sar has publically stated that he wants to leave MU at the end of the season, so keeping a guy in his 40s at the club when his heart isn't in it seems potentially foolhardy.

Will be interesting to see if the Arsenal takeover has any impact on the spending policy, the likes of De Gea and Reina are priced way over our typical budget but it would be nice to make a marque signing for once.

Owen's agent has reportedly approached Liverpool (as well as other clubs) over the possibility of signing Owen in the summer :o :D

I hope Dalglish isn't too polite to tell him to **** off. I had my suspicisions over why Owen signed up to twitter but it's now clear, it's cheaper than producing another brochure.

Owen can go take a running jump, well probably not actually as he would end up injured, got absolutely no desire to see him back at liverpool, in the unlikely chance that we want to sign some older player, there are far better ones around who would ask for less wages and would be able to play for more than 2 games without getting injured.

Why on earth would chelsea want him? they easily have one of the best keepers in europe as it is.

Highly debatable imo - he was one of the best (if not the best) for a while 3 seasons ago or something , but he lost his edge quite a while ago.

He is still very good - but a smidgen below VDS, Reina, Cassillas & even Neuer imo

Well that's one way to spin it I guess, the reality is he feels it's time to retire, I'm sure if he reversed that decision they'd be no question that his heart would still be in it. It's not like what you're suggesting i.e. that he's had enough of the club and wants a new challenge

Without doubt he will be fully committed to the club until the end of the season, but I get the impression from his statements so far he has had enough of the daily grind of training / playing (and imo this isnt something that can really be reversed)

He has done astoundingly well for us, and will continue to until (hopefully) May 29th - and he will then deserve retirement in full :)

Hmm I would agree with you if you were referring to last season or even the season prior to that, however this season he has been immense. Kept us in quite a few games.

I just think that 2005 (or was it 06) he was just unstoppable - and came out at the right time, and stayed on his line at the right time, got to crosses etc etc - maybe there was a little bit of luck (which every GK relies on a little) but it was also one great judgement call after another

I dont follow each game closely enough to remember each (PL) game this season, but he has looked a little shakey , especially coming out amongst players sometimes and not always getting the call correct (to come out or not)

Maybe because Chelsea's defence hasnt been as great, its putting pressure on him that wasnt there before, and thats making the difference - Im just not totally convinced he is at the same level as 05/06 thats all :)

Defensively Chelsea have been under more pressure this season than really any since Cech came in, yet they are comftably the best defence in the league, which suggests several things. The offence/midfield is the worst its been for some time, the defence is under more pressure than any other year, yet they still aren't conceding...... some people would suggest the defence has been better than in recent years and the keeper aswell.

You have to factor in that in Cech's "best year" barely anyone got near Cech in the first place, this season Chelsea's midfield has just let far more attacks than normal get past them.

I don't think Cech is the best in the world but, I don't think theres a keeper out there that would change how good Chelsea are, several "sidegrade" options, probably 7-8 keepers who are as good, a bit better, a bit worse, but theres no one so much better Chelsea would have conceded so many fewer goals they'd be top or anything.

Cech is MORE than good enough for a title winning side, he's 29, has at least 5 years left, maybe a decade, probably somewhere in the middle.

VDS is retiring because he wants to go back to Holland, build his house and spend time with his wife, who not long ago was seriously ill.

He's coming back in September though as his son is studying over here.

Well Tevez has apparently agreed to a move to Inter this summer.
Been reported in the italian papers over there.
Rumors of anything from 30-50m or something like Sneijder +20m.

Bit disappointed because he has become such a great player for us but if he wants to go then we shouldn't stop him and if we could bring in someone like Sneijder as well....

Sneijder to Man Utd for 25m is apparently very likely according to the press today, especially the daily fail! I hope it's true :(
