Integra Type R DC2

If you're backwards, yeah. :p Now stop ruining his thread. Just because it's a UKDM doesn't mean we can pick on the poor fugly thing's thread. :(

ha... I probably prefer the JDM front end too but after having a car stolen recently my insurance has jumped this year by £300 (even though I have 6 years protected NCB:rolleyes:) Lucikly Admiral Multi Car Policy saved me £180 so insurance is roughly £120 a year more than last year. So even though insurance isn't a massive issue, neither is UK/JDM so I'm happy to go for the cheaper insurance option. It'll be used for fun anyway, not to look pretty :)

The fact that the bodywork is going on these now I find off putting.

Rusting rear arches and bodywork is never going to be cheap to repair to a good standard.

I've also seen quite a few Hondas suffering from terrible paint, with the white looking very flat, EK9, DC2 and even a DC5. The later being advertised for sale!

Luckily my father runs his own body shop but obviously I still want to avoid any examples with rust or potential problems.

I hear that if you squint every time you look at the front end you can almost pretend that it's a JDM.

I jest, I jest!

only thing i would note is he doesnt seem to have actually checked within the rear panels himself?

dont rely on the fact there is no rust on the outside, its those rear panels which are important. they can potentially cost big money to put right.

Check that all of the gears can engage properly (especially when in vtec)

Unless it's been done already, it will need a full rebush at some point, they all do by now

Also, haggle the £80 off that you'll need to buy new red H badges with; yes they're an eye watering £39 each!

JDM looks even older than UKDM IMO. The UKDM looks more unique. Whether that's a good or bad thing is up to you!

And no, I've never owned, sat it or known anybody with a UKDM. I just prefer them. :p

Im showing my ignorance here I know but is the difference between the UKDM/JDM fronts the difference between the bug eyed one in OP's link and the 2 headlight type in Fonzee's sig?

Personally and as a fan of NA engines and Honda's are think DC2's are very dated, they look dated, hey have a dated engine that was great at the time and for years after but today they would only be a great car if they were a reasonable price, the UKDM's rot like pears and ones in good condition are very very expensive, JDMs are very very expensive.

One thing that irritates me is people seem to treat them like some kind of super car, apart from being good fun they really can be quite over rated

If the one in my original post has been undersealed and is as described then it should be fine regards to rust? Would you say £4750 is very very expensive?

They start in the places you cannot see, inner arches, under the arch lip protectors and the sills under the side skirts

To me they are a very old car for the price and come with old car problems but I can understand why people pay it if they really want one

Why are there soo many threads I need to write long replies for today :p

Car look quite good but it's overpriced as the bottom has fallen out of the market. There are good cars out there but I would only pay £5k for that mileage if it has had the bushes completely replaced and there was documented photographic evidence on the state of the rear arches.

On the bush front, 13yr old rubber bushes with 70k miles WILL be worn and I'm guessing that the RTA bushes would definately need replacing as they will be cracked and on their way out. A full rebush with Honda bushes is very expensive even if done DIY. I used superflex bushes with HONDA OEM RTA bushes (trust me keep these OEM) and they cost about £400 just for the bushes. Labour from a garage will be £500-£1000 depending on how many bolt shear off (£1k would be very bad but have heard of it happening).

My rebuild thread^

So as you can see costs will add up if you want the get into the condition where you can really experience how it was meant to feel. No matter what people say, cars on standard bushes and suspension from new will be sloppy.

UK rear arches rust, mine took £500 to get re-done but even that won't make them last forever. If someone says their UKDM is comepletely rust free then they are lieing. There is a slit at the front of the rear arch which lets what get in behind the rear quarter, unless these were blocked up from new (0 in 100 chance) then the car will have rust in there. Before you see a car you ideally need the owner to get the plastic panels out the rear so you can look down into the arches. Even though the one posted up has been undersealed, that might have just covered up the rot!!!!!

Also check for worn synchros as they go and a full rebuild of the box is around 1k. Ideally pickup a Teg that has had a gearbox rebuild.

So either buy one already refurbed (good luck finding one), buy the best you can as a project to do up, or buy cheap and just drive it around until dead.

Not over rated at all. They are still exceptional cars when in the right nick and are a true enthusiasts car. Teey can also be very reliable!

They don't look dated and still turn plenty of heads, that is just plain wrong.

-Ad-Why are there soo many threads I need to write long replies for today :p

Thanks for the reply :)

I've had another email back -

The car has a full proper Honda Service History. They check the car at every service and produce a report of the parts that need replacing, which have always been replaced without fail. So, many of the bushes have been replaced, but I couldnt tell you exactly which ones. Each one was done as it was needed, I'm not aware that any need replacement yet, but if you have your car serviced at Honda they tend to find fault with bushes pretty early on, as they have an obvious financial interest in replacing them.

Yes there is definitely no rust on the underneath. The car has been checked properly and undersealed properly and there is no rust on the chassis either inside or outside. Your right to make sure this has happenned though as it is such a common problem on Integra's and its the reason in my view that my car is a cut above the rest.

I have had more interest in the car now so if you want to reserve it, you will need to get the cash to me pretty soon.

Friday or Saturday should be fine with me, we can discuss suitable times later.

Thanks

What do you think?
