***** The Crysis 2 Thread *****

Crytek are dealing with SEVERE memory limitations on the consoles so it's to be expected that textures would be low, draw distance restricted and a whole host of other limitations come into play.

Thanks Mr Obvious ;) But the point is many of these can be fixed for the PC version. It could have easily had higher polygon counts, better physics, and textures with very little development time added.
Physics may change the gameplay though so i can understand not changing that, but in the case of textures, polygon counts, water effects and so on theres no excuse.
Not saying i hate the game, just the devs not putting enough time into the PC version as usual.
Hopefully the DX11 update will actually do something graphically plus add tesselation and not just have the exact same graphics but running on DX11.

Me too. Because of console limitations...

No more massive open areas.
Physics are used a lot less, so no more 100% destructable buildings, and the trees are not even destructable anymore!

I loved peeking to the side of the trees or storming in and all you see bodies flying back, trees/branches/leaves flying/falling over. Reminded me of Predator.

3+ years after the original and things have actually gone backwards.

Seems to be the normal then. Look at the UK or the rest of the world.

Crytek haven't said, they've just confirmed that there will be a DX11 patch at some point.

Yeah, many months away.

Maybe there will be a "cinematic mod" type thing at some point, putting the better textures and such back into the game.

Shouldn't even be that hard, in some cases they just took the nice shiney Crysis 1 texture file and chopped the resolution down low. Copy pasta with the original files and things might sharpen up.

yeah except the files are very encrypted and Crytek aren't releasing an SDK

there are going to be very few mods other than those which change the autoexec.

I've heard people talking about Crysis 1 and how it looked better then crysis 2, with high res textures etc. I havent played crysis 1 in years and was thinking because I've enjoyed the 2nd game so much, maybe I should install the first one again because I dont think I gave it much of a chance in the past, I remember getting to the alien part after the jungle stuff where I was floating around in a spaceship and then I never played it again lol.

Does Crysis warhead have same graphics as crysis 1? is it same engines, and did it have any faults with graphics compared to crysis 1, or is it exactly same, with high res textures?

Also has anyone released a high res texture pack for crysis 2 yet do you know, and is there any tips/tricks to make the game look better?

I think Warhead is the same engine with a new map pack basically (think HL2, HL2:ep1)

Although it's more fun as it's got Physco as the main character :D

I've recently replayed Crysis and Warhead (not quite finished Warhead yet). Originally I wasn't that keen on Warhead, but on replaying it's definitely better than I remember. It's faster paced than Crysis, but a bit narrower in the path you have to follow. Sort of half-way between Crysis and Crysis 2. Still looks spectacular though, and the optimisations definitely make it perform better than the first game.

Just finished the SP. Lack of a final boss was disappointing, but the final level was still superb, and the game as a whole is about as epic a shooter I've ever played. Looking forward to the next game.

Not that i know of, i think some are waiting for the editor and sdk to mod crysis2, but there has been no mention of this by ea or crytek. Crysis 2 was developed for the consoles in mind and CryEngine 3 and CryEngine live create was made for game developers. PC gamers got burned on this one imho.

Not completed it yet but must be a good way through. Honestly one of the most disappointing and genuinely rubbish games I've played in ages. The aliens are just the most ridiculous enemy. Exactly the same as the first game, it's great when you're fighting people, completely pants when you're fighting the aliens. Such a shame.

I still enjoyed the SP and finished it. One of the very very few games I ever finished. Never actually finished the orignal Crysis. I rate this one more enjoyable.

But they said the pc game was being developed separately and not a port?

No, the consoles are dealing with severe memory limitations and hardware restrictions. Why on earth did they ship the pc version of the game with the console textures and draw distance settings. Some of it is the same damn textures as Crysis 1, just with the resolution chopped in half, i'm pretty sure a pc of today can handle the textures from 4 years ago.

Would it have been that big a deal to change a handful of the files inside the .pak files to give pc gamers back the detail they are used to?

If you watch the vid in the link above, it mentions how they cut corners on the AI programming this time around. There is NO difference between fighting the aliens and fighting the humans now, they even fire over the top of cover the same.

Cost is the answer why would crytek spend more money developing the PC version. ? Consoles make the money PC gamers are a small minority. They will wait until they have raked in enough cash and then if we are really lucky they may improve the PC version.
