Mortal Kombat (2011)

i saw the gameplay videos and i thought it looks stiff and clunky. and now with this online pass thing, i definitely not willing to pay 30-40 pounds for it.

The gameplay is absolutely awesome and I've only really played Single player. There's a lot of great single player content I just want to play someone online now!

Yeah Adz I'm pretty sure I seen a create lobby option. It's not as hard to pick up as I thought... the only real real change is you push a button to block. I thought it was gonna play really slow and clunky too but it's totally not the case. I really like it.

Ah really? Thats my plan of getting it cheap second hand out the window then lol. Any idea how much the passes cost? Guessing they can be bought on PSN when its back up again?

800msp

Online is a complete joke though.

What button layout are the fightstick users playing with? Kreeeee I'd be interested to hear what you're using mate.

Just default, it makes no difference. You will always have your 4 buttons to the left and block wherever you feel comfortable.

MK games are designed to be very easy, with no timing required for the vast majority of combo's

Hmmm I might just buy it then. The graphics look really good, the fatalities look awesome, the story mode looks great and it is mortal kombat after all.

Yeah I don't like the button for block either, I was hoping they removed that but it's always been the MK way from what I remember. Is it officially out in the shops? Might see if I can pick up a copy tomorrow...

Making my way through Story Mode at the moment, and just seriously loving this. A pitch-perfect melding of MK II and III with modern graphics and a few nifty ideas.

Right back to the MK roots that I used to spend HOURS perfecting as a teenager. I've slipped right back into it like a nice pair of shoes, it's just so intuitive.

The only thing annoying me is how UNBELIEVABLY cheap the bosses are in Ladder mode. I haven't managed to beat Shao Kahn even on Medium yet. It's just impossible.

Dont know why certain people are bashing this game. It's very good fun so far. Im struggling to get used to the different control scheme to SF though lol.

because there in sf mode thats why....which is a shame bc sf is far from perfect and MK does a lot of things right that sf doesnt.

but then these are the same people that claim mvc3 isnt an unbalanced, dull and unfinished mess.

the bosses are pretty easy to be honest, a little cheap but compared to mk3 these are a walk in the park. dunno who your using but the general ideas are:

kintaro: avoid his grab, he does a lot of pauses and can be hit then. rush when he teleports
goro: pretty much the same as above but easier.
shao khan: keep your distance, the females can duck under his hammer and spear then attack (such as kitanas fan throw), if your using a male then you will have to jump a fair bit...unless its smoke who can just teleport around him. Dont let him get close as he has a habit of launching you into ridiculous combo situations, abuse the timings of his hammer/spears and his taunting, if you get it right you can get 4/5 of the same move off before he "resets"

Your ignorance is hilarious.

He does have a point though.

The majority of those complaining about the new MK are tournament fighter players dedicated to the likes of SF, BlazBlue et al.

Most of those have never cared for the pared-back style of the MK games which, really, is just meant for fun. There's no denying that.

His post insinuates that he looks down on those people. I don't. Though I'd rather they take MK for what it is (a DAMN good time) than just dismiss it like they do.

As an aside, I played my first ever few bouts on Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 this evening against someone who's owned it for a while (a mate brought it round for a blast). I hated it. I couldn't tell what the HELL was going on so I just ended up bashing button as all manner of stuff flashed away on screen. Almost beat him, too.

Still, rather than dismiss it as ****, it looked to me like there might be a lot to learn there. I just don't know it yet.

There is a lot more to learn. IMO the initial learning curve for mvc3 is relatively steep. For example, you can't get away with just throwing projectiles and knocking them out of the air when they jump), which is a very simple strategy that works in many other fighting games (MK9 included I'll bet).

Could someone elaborate a bit more on why online sucks? Laggy/poor connectivity/lack of features?

For me, unless you play regularly offline with friends or in a local league/tourney, online play is the only place you'll get the experience needed to get better.
The single player features do seem absolutely amazing for a fighting game, but playing against the AI is a complete waste of time if you can play real people instead (basically everyone that's hooked up to PSN/XBL)
