Is PSN under attack? - PSN now back up 15/05

This is going to be very awkward for Lovefilm to deal with - being a third party with vested interests in PSN security for the streaming service they recently launched.

Pretty unprecedented this.
 
All those years i've been saying it. I'll just sit up here on my throne right now.

So have there been any reports yet of people actually loosing money due to this security breach or is it all purely speculative at the moment?

Your missing something, if as you say the downtime is that long then who would want to develop for the console?

If indeed it does take weeks then I can see developers pulling away from Sony. Coupled with the massive amount of bad press this is going generate.

If I were a new customer in the coming weeks wanting a console and all I hear about is stolen CC details mixed with the PS3 then it will be an xbox all the way. Imagine if this had happened in November with Christmas around the corner what parent in their right mind would by a compromised console for it, we are all pretty savy on this forum and know it will blow over but to a unsavy parent the words Stolen, Credit Card, Sony and PS3 will be the only decider.

Well that hasn't been confirmed, though nothing would shock me at this stage. Sony's own article admits to having lax security, the only way that the hackers could have obtained the account passwords and secret answers if is Sony did not encrypt the data using a hashing algorithm, so this information leak can largely be attributed to Sony's security incompetence. We have all seen how bad their security measures are re the PS3 being hacked due to amateur cryptography mistakes. People saying it's not Sony's fault must be mad! I am just glad I do not use my PSN password for anything else.
 
Can't even remember what my PSN password is, or what card details I had stored on it were... and can't check as the PSN is down.

How do we request new sub-forums to be set-up? I think we could do with a temporary one named 'A Stab in the Dark', where we can send a select few from here to go and make their wild, baseless, uninformed speculations without bothering anyone else.
 
So was it mere coincidence that hackers (Geohotz & Anonymous etc) compromise Sony PS3 earlier when servers were utterly overrun with hacks. 3.56 patch is released which Sony says fixs it all then a couple of months later Sony is compromised again - this time 75 million peoples personal and financial information....uh lol.... This could run for a while sigh...

Didn't Microsoft try this back in the day and it didn't work because the hackers only knew how to break things, not how to fix them. This could just be a wild rumour but it sounds reasonable to me.
Your romantic vision of hackers is annoying, in my vision they're nothing but little plebs who, after having their mother's wipe their asses, set out to crap all over other peoples hard work.
George Hotz is a smug looking prat who thinks he's Gods gift. Sure he knows how to break stuff but all those videos he does are ridiculous. "Look what I did! Now come arrest me!" Worst criminal ever. Certainly not the anti-hero that you seem to think he is. Grow up.
