Not a transfer but Big Sami Hyypia's announced he'll retire at the end of the season. Class on and off the pitch. Would love him to come back to Liverpool as a coach; the youngsters we've got coming through the ranks at the moment could learn a lot from him.

At least you're linked with big name signings. Even the papers don't bother with Arsenal any more. :p

Edit - unless it's some French wonderkid.

I suppose that a plus.

The squad needs so much work though, its just not funny, the lack of quality has shown in our away performances this season.

Be nice if the likes of Sanchez and Sneijder were signed, along with a decent keeper and a couple decent youth players coming through, but all I can see happening is one signing, probably a keeper (not one of the ones the club is constantly linked with) and the same squad going into next season with no other changes than Gibson playing more and Cleverly and Welbeck coming back.

I still think neither Fergie or the club are going to spend real money until Fergies replacement is tied up.

There's a lot of speculation that City are already in talks to sign Sanchez with them hoping to tie the deal up asap. As for Sneijder, even if Utd are capable/the Glazers are willing to sanction a ~£30m signing, at 27 years old would Sneijder represent good 'value'?

Rumours that real madrid have bought sahin. Can't understand why he'd want to go there - will he ever get a game apart from the occasional sub appearance?

Why wouldn't man u want schneider? He's not too old and is a fantastic player in a position they need to strengthen.

It's just his age, I think they could invest in a younger player for much less money.

You need to stop playing FM! Just because he's nearly 30 when you can afford him, doesn't mean he's that age in real life.

But to have a 'young' player be Man Utd's playmaker? He's got at least 6 good seasons in him yet.

Aye, but it would cost an awful lot of money, would it be worth it over the 6 seasons? Personally, I think it's too much and they could look at cheaper younger alternatives.

I'd love to see a player like Modric at United, The price Spurs would demand would be outrageous though.

Modric would be turning 26 by the time Utd sign him...

;)

He's only 26!

He'll be 27 by the summer and rightly or wrongly, the money men at clubs will take that into account his resale value and how many years he's got left in him.

For example if you say a player is past his best at 32 (you could use any age, it makes no difference), a 27 year old costing £30m would cost you £6m per year, where as a 22 year old costing £30m would cost £3m per year. Then of course a 22 year old could potentially be sold for a similar figure in 2-3 years time where as the 27 year old's value would be halved after a couple of years.

Still younger and cheaper then Sneijder. Don't get me wrong, he's a good player and all that jazz, but the money being thrown around for him is too high. He has no resale value and will cost a lot per season. Especially with the new rules about spending in Europe coming in to play. I just think they'd be better off going after a younger and cheaper alternative.

Yeah, but with Utd's current midfield they'd want someone to slot straight in, not have to wait a couple seasons till he's good enough. Scholes is potentially retiring end of the season so having to rely on a younger less experienced playmaker wouldn't help things.

Not really sure who else they'd go for though..be interesting to see whether Utd actually went in for him before he went to Inter - would have been a good price then!
