Are we talking about him "slotting" in an attacking midfielder role?

Rooney can do that very well.

Yeah, but with Utd's current midfield they'd want someone to slot straight in, not have to wait a couple seasons till he's good enough. Scholes is potentially retiring end of the season so having to rely on a younger less experienced playmaker wouldn't help things.

Not really sure who else they'd go for though..be interesting to see whether Utd actually went in for him before he went to Inter - would have been a good price then!

You're looking at it purely on a football basis and that's only done at couple of clubs these days, Utd not being one of them.

A balance between football and the numbers determine whether most clubs sign players these days and considering all the talk about 'value' coming out of OT, I'd be surprised if ~£30m on Sneijder strikes the right balance.

I'd sooner have Rooney and Berbatov play the number ten role and invest in what our midfield actually needs which is someone that can put in a tackle and carry the ball forward for our attacking players, not another "in the hole" player like Rooney and Berb. Berbatov keeps being deployed as a lone striker which is nonsense, it's no surprise that some of his best games came when he was deployed behind Hernandez.

Good player but not sure him and Rooney could play in the same side tbh

As midfielders go I'd much prefer Modric

I would love Modric at Utd - the only thing that Utd would miss (from a number of years ago, rahter than last couple) is goals from central midfield which Modric hasnt been great at with Spurs (this season anyway).... which the team have been missing really since Keane departed, (afrter all Scholes stopped scoring regularly a while back, Carrick Anderson / Gibson scores rarely, Giggs scores a few but less regularly from a central midfield position (but assists are usually decent)......would be nice to get a high scoring midfielder in the ranks again

Like who?

Balague confirmed on Ravista that Reina is staying at Liverpool, believes the club is moving in the right direction etc etc.

I hate the guy, but he's right at least 80% of the time.

Best 'signing' for the summer already done then :D

Also said a certain Spanish LB , who plays in the PL, is a done deal to Pool (not exactly a secret..)

He also said that Mata, Capel and Griezmann will be leaving this summer; for "clubs he just mentioned."

Which was Liverpool, United, Arsenal and Madrid.

Be interesting to see who goes where.

-edit-

I turned off before that point of the show, got it from twitter so cant confirm its 100% legit.

Everytime I pick up a paper, go online or switch on the TV Fergie seems to be bumming Modric and saying how he's the greatest, wonder if he is trying to sow the seeds for a summer move.

In terms of a successor to Scholes, I reckon Fabregas would be a great buy for MU, although of course rumours about Barca persist (personally I don't think they can afford him, but he might prefer to go there over MU).

As for the whole age vs contract debate, I think it is seriously overplayed in the modern era. Signing 'young' players doesn't mean what it used to; take Newcastle buying Owen for example when he was 25, so in theory either had a good 7 seasons ahead of him, or could be sold for some cash. End result, he left on a Bosman.

laughs - well yeah I would go along with that without a second's thought , and it looks like Real want to buy every decent midfielder going for the 2nd summer in a row lol

Now I see they've been in negotiations for Sanvhez  WHere would he play??? Can't see why anyone would want to move to them with the competition there.

Thing is Mourinho strikes me as the type of manager who would cast aside players he isn't happy with. Kaka really doesn't seem to be his cup of tea for example. He did it at Chelsea with the likes of Parker who was a decent squad player. Veron who was a 'big name' got cast aside on loan as well.

Saying that I could see him just offloading Kaka and getting Sanchez, given his affection for wingers. The days when Chelsea were dominant were built on his hard hitting midfield and the two wingers of Robben and Duff. Substitute them two for Di Maria/Ronaldo/Sanchez and well he will be in familiar territory tactics wise.

haven't seen anything like that myself recently but tbh us having Modric in midfield wouldn't be fair to the other 19 teams in the league ;)

Are we assuming Mourinho's going to be at Real next season? If history's anything to go by, he'll be sacked in the summer.

They said he would be given next season didn't they?

Funny 'cause some ex people to do with Real have said he's no good and should go.
