If you don't have an iPhone...

unlocking the iphone so you can modify it is literally 3 clicks away

infact its exactly as easy as rooting an android phone

lots of fools in this thread though

theres nothing that would have ever persuaded me to get an iphone3 but theres nothing that will persuade me to get rid of my iphone4 , does everything i want and does it well all while looking and feeling like the premium price kit that it is

I guess this is where exclusivity comes into it. I know the Galaxy S was the most popular Android phone over the past year or so with the HTC Desire being second but even though it was most popular you didn't know loads of people with it, they might have had a Wildfire, or an X10 or something like that so when you did see one or if you owned one there was a sense of exclusivity.

The same exclusivity extends to each maker's customisations because each phone would be different and building on from that, the user experience as well.

This is where I felt the iPhone missed out, they all look the same and everyone's iPhone is also the same, except for those that jailbroke their but those people are far from common.

It's a mixed bag.

People want something that works out of the box and is swish.
People want something that has a level of exclusivity.
People want something that all their friends haven't got.

It's not at all a bad thing of course.

And so on!

Coming from the guy who buys Android memorabilia and takes 47372793 photos of things with not so subtle placement of his phone included.

You're the biggest, geekiest Android fanboy I've seen.. Sorry to say.

Huh, care to elaborate? I write reviews so taking pictures that look good is one thing that's important. Your attitude kind of stinks. Besides, I have ONE Android desktop toy and that is the only Android thing other than my phone which I own so what are you on about other than spewing bull****.

Your lack of posting on the latest iPhone doesn’t mean you’re not a fanboy. Really, who are you trying to kid, we all know you are and worst ones are the ones who deny it. :D

And you wonder why people act like idiots with their opinions :p

Like Robbo said, I've never pushed Android on to anyone who would otherwise be better off with a BB or an Apple device and vice versa. I prefer to educate rather than shove an opinion on someone and I feel that shows in how I (and others on here) go about helping people out who have questions. I guess it's not just on here either but in real life.

BUT!

I think you, and a lot of others have a real hard time discerning when someone is having a joke and when they're being serious. The downside to translating expressions on an internet forum...
Look at my brain thread, too many people not getting what the Op was doing. Ah well.

Haha, glad I'm not the only one that thinks this.

I bought an iPhone as I wanted a Phone that had Facebook and a mp3 player like an iPod.

Had my 3G for nearly 3 years, in that time it's lost it's Vibrate button and the buttons for the volume have fallen off. It still does the job, but it is kind of slow so I may purchase a iPhone 4.

They're good phones, no faffing about work out of the Box. Simple.

I could, I don't own an Iphone or Droid but I don't approve of apple locking it down from day one.

It's the whole attitude that some companies have that annoys me, someone should not have to break into it so that they can modify it.

Since you don't know and you don't just blame Apple, Android phones are also locked down and you have to do similar things to unlock them.
(I have one iPhone and 3 Androids in the house)

In my search for a new phone, is a phone with Wifi preferable?

(As you can see I know little about phones ^^)

google tried to make a similar advert but when demoing the camera on a HTC the photos looked out of focus , when demoing GPS on the galaxy S it just didn't work , when demoing media capabilities on the X10 the album art lagged , demoing the screen on the nexus it looked pink and then when demoing anything at all on an LG the handset fell apart in their hands

trolling but do you get my point ? until now and the galaxy S2 then there has always 'something' thats just wrong. apple fix things much much quicker from my little experience , and obviously this is because they dont have to cover so many different hardware specs

I had an iPhone but got tired of the OS and Android has been developing rapidly. After having made the switch I'm now of the opinion that Android is considerably superior and I like the more open approach to things.

I don't know how I put up with iOS for as long as I did.

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. The Galaxy S II is great but there's phones before it that work just fine without any noticeable issues. Nexus S is the most recent one. (before the S II)

Nowhere near as locked down as iPhones though.

you had an iphone3 with a tiny screen res therefore your point is irrelevant , unless you want to compare it to the first wave of androids ?

I had an iPhone 3GS and I used a 4 as a stop-gap for a week. It was the same experience, albeit very slightly faster with a superior screen. Hurray?

What does screen res have to do with anything? Are you telling me the iPhone 4 has a better screen so therefore better software and a better OS along with it? Lol.

iPhone 4 = same iPhone experience as the 3GS but with a better screen and camera. My point is not irrelevant.

The main thing heavily in favour of the iPhone is the app store, the Android Market is nowhere near as good, and while it is getting better it still has a long way to go.

Still, buttery smooth flash on the Galaxy S II makes up for a lot of it :D
