PC Exclusives?

Remember this OP. If you keep 2 months behind the times with pc releases you can buy most games for £10-£15 :D

I will never pay £40 for any game again to be honest. Even £30 puts me off!

Mind your manners!
I doubt you'd spend 900 pound on a console only to find there aren't any games you like. If its really rhat hard to understand either re-read my posts (cause I'm pretty sure I answered/corrected everything)]

£900 on just the tower or the whole PC suite? (Monitor, peripherals etc.)

What is AAA?

Short for AmrAAm.

Fun fact: I game at a four times higher resolution than that on consoles (1440p vs 720p). Also apply Supersampling or Adaptative AA depending on the game. Also get Texture Filtering and all the glory of Dx11. The difference is often like that between PSX and PS3.

Also got a mouse and a keyboard, my two hands' extensions to maintain a God-like form in any games that aren't played better with a joystick/wheel/gamepad. There's only a bunch of games that look good on consoles and none of them aren't beaten on PC.

Problem, console gamers?

Now to be serious on the subject, many games are not PC exclusives even though most of the well-known series started on PCs and now are catching up on consoles. That doesn't prevent them from being better on PCs.

Second thing to bear in mind, modding communities. This can likely change the entire experience from a

Third thing, indie games. It's easy to distribute games on PC platform.

Forth thing - customisation. You can do anything you want with your PC, it can look how you want it to, it can play how you want it to and it can be what you want it to.

Fifth thing - games prices - these can be really low compared to

Sixth thing - patches and development. Many of the PC titles don't stop evolving after release which can't be said about console games. It's not only about bug fixes after all.

Expansion packs are also something that is pretty much exclusive to PC games. It's not DLCs that add a few maps and skins but often large overhauls of the game.

PC exclusives? Plenty of RTS games, TTS, simulators, tycoons, other kinds of strategies, cRPGs, MMORPGs, browser based games, probably a dozen of genres none of us heard about, many mixes and cross-overs that would never work on consoles, emulators, old-school relicts, etc. The list is never-ending, almost. There are some pretty good FPS exclusives over time but most make their way to consoles anyway.

PC gaming is usually much more "hardcore", console gaming - casual. It's not a bad thing, I would call it a preference. I've got consoles and never even touch them any more. They're not worth my time TBF.

Play TF2 if you like, get some of the well-known strategies, play an MMO or two, find what's hot in indie development, get a game that you can easily mod and see how you like it.

PC gaming is an entirely different experience at times.

This sums it up. Great post

I see. Seems like a high resolution to play games at for a single 5850. Depends on what games though i suppose :p

Why? My 5850 holds its own, which games do you have on mind that could possibly be a problem?

It's clocked passed 5870's speeds, bear that in mind.

um, quite a lot if they are maxed out.

But that's not quite true, is it?

I use AAx2 and AFx16 with everything else maxed out in most games I play. Some of the titles include but are not limited to:

  • BFBC2 (2xAA or 4xAA, can't remember, everything maxed out)
  • ARMA II (custom settings)
  • The Witcher (don't have to comment, Aurora engine after all)
  • LOTRO (maxed out with 8xAA)
  • Portal, HF2, TF2, other Source games
  • Shogun 2 (dropping Depth of Field that I don't like and no AA since I can't apply last patch just yet)
  • RIFT
  • Warband
  • Darksiders
  • GTA IV

Everything maxed out or almost maxed out and works just fine.

Haven't tried Crysis but can't really be bothered since I don't play it at all (almost) and it's on another HDD so would have to move it over, Metro 2033 (don't have it) and that's about it that comes to mind and is GPU-intensive.

Problem?

No. It just can't be that pleasant is all i am saying.

Well, it looks mighty better at 2560x1440 with 2xAA than on my Dell 2209WA at 1680x1050 with 8xAA. Tearing may be a problem at 60Hz if you don't have v-sync on (I don't personally like it) and some games do get below 40 fps and that is noticeable since I'm used to playing at 60+. It's still ok though and the scope that the higher resolution gives you is worth it.

Plus if my machine starts to really struggling maxing out any games, I am going to put there another 5850 or replace it with another £200 card and use it for another 2 years or so.

Gaming is not really a problem now and 2xAA at this resolution, if a game supports higher resolution textures, is always better looking than higher AA at lower resolution.

That's another thing to note really, PC gamers have too high standards at times :p

They spend so much money on upgrading their PCs that they start to forget what the purpose of upgrading is. Most games do really play fine at 35+ fps and the difference between this and 45-50 is not really worth spending £120-180 extra.

Depends how you view money also though.

To some, £120 is peanuts for a good boost.

I had a chance to upgrade to GTX480 for £100, it's not a good option for me atm though seeing that a completely new generation is out by the end of this year and my gfx doesn't really struggle with any of the games yet.

It's not about spending this £100 but justifying the upgrade. If I had much money to waste, I would probably buy a top end card for £350 and not bother upgrading for a year, I like to make sensible purchases though, even when I do have disposable income.

As do I!

But I see people putting a lot of money into PCs that some would be in shock over and other scoffing at the same amount. :p

More about semantics my point was than your personal point of view.

I'm still on a 4850 and still havn't deemed necessary to upgrade. :p
