*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

I don't wish to worry you, but when I rang HTC I was told it should be 10 days. They collected the phone Monday last week and the website shows it is still on its way to the repair centre, despite UPS tracking showing it was delivered in 24 hours. When I phoned to check, I was told that the turnaround time is now being quoted as 28 days

Same thing here, sent mine off last week and hadn't heard a thing from them since, no emails or anything. So I rang yesterday and got told 2-3 weeks :(.

At least you were only told 2 - 3 weeks. That gives me some hope!

The guy said they are waiting for some parts from Japan and the US, so with any luck it won't be too long a wait.

Why did you send yours in by the way? mine was rebooting itself, and sometimes getting stuck in a loop of reboots, overheating I think as it got really hot on the bottom part of the phone.

They haven't even evaluated my phone yet - it's still showing as en route to the service centre. I returned it as the back key was not responding and the finish on the key had started to flake off, as I had to press the key so hard. Apparently, whilst the fault with the key is covered under warranty, the flaking finish is not, as it is caused by "wear and tear".

Sent my phone back for repair and without any complaints from myself the HTC correspondent called me up to apologise about my wait on the repair job. They have offered me a free accessory up to the price of £50 off their web page for my "inconvenience" yet I wasn't even worried :p Not sure what to pick now, £50 head set sounds good.

Whats the easier way to migrate from a 4Gb card to a 16Gb card?

I tried just swapping it over but did not work, can anyone tell me the easiest way to do this

Thanks

Kimbie

like above I guess.

Enter recovery
Nandriod + ext backup
Pop that onto the PC
New SD card in
Put nandriod backup onto new card while in recovery
Restore nandroid
Result?

Not tried this myself though!

So I finally got rounf to calling HTC to collect my phone for repair and it's going to be around a 20 day turn around

Seriously considering paying off my contract and ordering the SGSII. When it's returned, I can sell my Desire which will more than covering the contract termination fee.

Were any of you running custom roms/rooted/S-OFF'd when you returned your phone to HTC?

I've got insurance via the CPW but I don't really want them to take my phone for 2-3 weeks and then send it me back still broken because it's not stock.

The RUU's are a pain to install and I'm not sure whether they can still see that the phone's been modified.

The screen on mine is cracked on the left hand side a considerable bit, and seeing as though it's AMOLED I'm not sure whether they'll just send me a new LCD handset(refurb no doubt :() or fix mine by putting a LCD screen into it.

Just seen this. Phone them and complain and tell them you want the choice of a free accessory (seeing as they seem to be giving them out ;) )

Sorry in advance if this is a stupid question, I'm late on the bandwagon

I want to root my Desire but I'm happy with the stock ROM. Do I have to change the ROM to benefit from the perks of rooting, or can I keep it stock? I just want to remove the pre-installed spam to make more room for other apps

I'm on Orange and still have a year left on the contract, so don't want to risk killing it and not be able to send it back. I see there is no Orange ROM available in case things go wrong

Just choose a Sense ROM from XDA if you want to stay stock(sense in your case), it will be the same ROM your already using with SuperUser(root) and some tweaks depending on what specific ROM you choose, without the Orange apps.

There's quite a lot to choose from although there's a lot of love on here for the Leedroid ROM.

I returned mine to stock by using an RUU before sending it away. Better to be safer than sorry, as if they could tell they'll probably void your warranty. I just installed HTC Sync, ran the exe file and it took around 5-10 minutes to complete.

Might do this, thanks for letting me know.

I'm hoping I'll receive my phone back today, as the status says its been repaired and finished all the testing. When I rang HTC about the delivery back to me, I was told the mainboard has been replaced and should expect delivery either maybe today/tomorrow, or early next week.

So the only way to remove the Orange Apps is to change the ROM? There is no way to remove them just by rooting the phone?

If the Desire gets an OTA to 2.3, where will that leave me?

Glad your phone is on the way back to you - gives me some home. Mine (which was stock) is still shown as en route to the service centre after 17 days!

Got mine back now! :)

Have you rang them up and asked them the status of it, I found the online tracker here, https://tracking.htc.com/ViewTicket.aspx, to be pretty rubbish. It only updated about 3 times, and it still says its waiting to be collected from the repair centre but I have it back now.

I emailed them and received the following response "I can confirm that your device has been received at our repair centre however unfortunately I do not have any further information with regards to repair and estimated time of when you are going to get your device back".

At least I know they've received my phone even if the tracker says otherwise! The article in The Register http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/05/18/htc_failed_support/ does not make good reading either.

After reading this I decidered to check the status of mine...

It now says "Status: We are currently testing your phone"

That's after 11 Days

Hopefully I'll get it back end of next week :D
